yeah, I was thinking leaves might work, but straw would be loads better. The worms seem to love straw anyway.

Well, when we say "pitch it" we mean it's dead and gone, but you keep bringing up how you want to save them through different means.
Just start from scratch, forget those existed, and move on. I'm sorry for your loss.

I had already threw it out before anyone replied. All I did was speculate to as it would do anything outside.

Well I once had a cake, I don't remember if it was flushed a few times or not, but I just buried it in the dirt. Nothing fancy, a part of the yard where the water seemed to drain too. I got 2 flushes out of it. Slugs love shrooms.
But my cake had zero contams, so I dunno. Regardless don't eat them.

I have had bacterial infections go both ways outdoors. Some will fruit, others will not. I did not do much in the way of maintaining my "patches" either. In my situation, OD grows are a death sentence. Slugs LOVE mushrooms more than any of us.
The only benefit that my OD grows gave me was a few spore prints. My OD was decimated by slugs and gnats last summer. I wont eat anything that bugs have been eating on.

During times where it is favorable for cubensis to grow, the slugs are rampant. I cant step out at night without popping a couple on my bare feet

Better give up all food.
To the OP, freezing won't necessarily kill the mycelium over winter. I've seen six inches of snow on cow fields in Texas which are productive every summer. RR

Hahah, You read more into that statement than was intended...
"I won't eat any psychoactive mushroom that bugs have been eating on"
I am realistic that bugs permeate every part of our being, but if you saw what they did to my OD patch this summer, you would understand what I mean. (not what I say lol)....And if all your food looked like that, you would not eat it. Seeing gnats flying in and out of anything is a real turn-off, not to mention even thinking about future consumption....and by "in and out" I mean they burrowed into the stipe and ate from the inside...while the slugs ate from the outside.
They did more than nibble on a bit here and there. It was a daily loss. One day you have a pin, the next morning you have a blue stump.
