Yeah, the SIlva thing was brutal but it has to be said: John Donaher, one of Weidman's coaches, said after the first fight that although he was glad with Weidman's win, those leg kicks Silva threw at him were of some concern and so they worked on a technique aptly called '' the destroyer '' to check Silva's leg kicks using a knee. You can clearly see Weidman using it right before Silva's leg snapped.
Also, Dana White said that after the first kick ( the one where Silva's leg snapped was the second one ), Silva felt his bone crack after Weidman checked it. Then he tried it a second time and we all know how that turned out...
I'm foreseeing a massive change in the use of leg kicks by MMA fighters and even more in their use of this new technique, '' the destroyer '' since leg kicks are a huge part of the game. That fight will have a huge influence in the long run.

Yea, I heard a lot of people after the fight saying things like, "Silva beat himself blah blah blah." I tried explaining what you just did, that Weidman trained for that exact move and it wasn't a bad kick but a great block.

Yeah. I gather it will be a long time before people set aside their affection for Silva and accept the fact that his era has now come to an end. I love Silva myself, he was great but it's time to move on. Weidman is now 11-0, beat Silva twice and is being a great humble champion. Great for him. Can't wait to see what the future holds for him. The guy has huge talent.

Yeah when it happened I felt bad for Weidman just standing by himself while everyone was worrying about Silva writhing in pain. And the dude looked pretty bummed like man I've beat Silva twice but some will still consider them "flukes". A win is a win, he was dominating it anyway up to that.

Exactly. Not to mention, he did prepare for those leg kicks. And it paid off. But you're right, up until that moment, he was dominating Silva, just like in the first fight.
If we transposed this fight in the street and we saw someone check a leg kick with the results we have witnessed here, we'd consider the guy who checked it the undisputed winner of that fight. I don't get why some people think it's different here.

I agree, as far as inside leg kicks are concerned. I feel kicks to the top of the thigh are very underrated. A few solid kicks to the thigh of the lead leg can completely change a fight.
