Is way to course to use as a casing . Out of season that is'nt possible . Look for a product at Petsmart called "BED A BEAST " , it is coco coir in brick form that you soak in water to make it expand . Good Luck

I cant go into my local hydro store for reasons I wont speak of. We dont have petsmart here, only petland. I phoned all the home and garden places and they only carry it in the spring. Sucks to be me.

No Petsmart in your area ? Go take a look at it , if it is big chips pressed together , it is wrong stuff . If it is fine looking material all pressed together , than it is right stuff . Like I said ask for "BED A BEAST " , any decent sized pet shop should carry it or be willing to order it for you , it is not a seasonla product for pet shops . Good Luck

Guess what, you just found coco coir. It is coconut bark. I'm just editing this as to be perfectly clear. Coco coir is coconut husk or bark, shreaded up very small.

So if I add CaSO4, calcium sulfate, which is gypsum for mushroom metabolism it should not hurt? Even though it drops the pH 1/2 to 1 point. The pH scale cannot be balanced exactly on 7. Do shrooms prefer acidic or the basic side of nuetrality?
