multitasking/ changing focus from one task to another
    #19334221 - 12/27/13 07:42 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

what is multitasking?
alot of people think that multitaskign is ability to do many things at once while paying attention to all of them.
i thought that too at first then i red few articles explaining how attention works

turned out that we have a limited attention span and can only focus on single task at a time.

meaning when we multitask we dont focus on many tasks but only focus on task at hand while keeping the others in short term memory.

at least thats what i understood from those articles.

wat im wondering is what affects the ability to switch focus between tasks when multitasking and when doing multiple things throughout the day.

i cant seem th switch focus from one task to another completely and always have 100 things circulating in my head which wont let me focus on any of the tasks im doing for long enough period.

its like i get stuck focusing one or few things and sometimes i get stuck on them for weeks. sometimes they just interfere with my daily routines...

in my other thread where i said i can focus only when im under influence. thats what i meant...

normally i cant keep focus on single task when i really need to.
other times i get stuck on things i realy dont need to be doing at the moment( not important thoughts/ things etc) and cant switch..

If I'm singing along to Ripple, smoking a joint, and driving I guess I'm multi-tasking. Or smoking a joint, drinking a beer, eating a chili dog, and watching a basketball game while playing with my dogs that's ok. I can even check my email, fuck my girlfriend, smoke and drink, at the same time.

Ure still only focused on one task at a time. Pay attention to what u re focused on and you will see that ure not focused on all tasks at once but switch focus.
Iike a desktop you can have 100 windows open at once but your monitor represents focus
U can have one full window or 5 tiny windows at once but ur full focus is only when single window is open

But if I'm singing a song and get all the lyrics right while driving 80 mph without incident what else can you call it?

thats not multitasking.
you  can walk and talk naturally lol

your senses take in the information but your processor has limited multithreading capability so even if you hear/see/feel at the same time your brain only focuses on one thing at a time
when you about to crash into car you stop singing because all your focus goes into avoiding the crash...

multitasking is listening to 3 different customers while looking up the product on the computer and being on hold with the customer service at the same time.

That's just one thing: talking on the phone. I can do that and drive.

are you trying to make a point? or trying to add a line to your ban record i dont think its something to be proud of

what you listed is hardly considered multitasking

like i said humans can walk and talk at the same time naturally
you can talk and drive same way
