Foreign Ministry: Russia regrets Uruguay's legalization of cannabis
    #19332020 - 12/27/13 07:42 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

MOSCOW, December 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is disappointed by Uruguay’s introduction of a new law legalizing production and sale of marijuana, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said Friday.

Uruguayan President Jose Mujica signed the law on December 23, making Uruguay the first country in the world to legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana in a bid to undercut the illegal drug trade.

“The Russian side…expresses regret with the decision adopted by the Uruguayan authorities,” the statement posted on Russia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said, stressing the government’s commitment to strict drug control.

The new law allows the production, distribution and sale of marijuana, and lets people over the age of 18 grow their own plants on a small scale. Uruguayans will now also be able to get marijuana through state-regulated smoking clubs or buy up to 40 grams per month from pharmacies.

The United Nations' International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) strongly criticized the bill, which it called a “surprising” violation of a 1961 drug-control convention.

Uruguay “knowingly decided to break the universally agreed and internationally endorsed treaty,” said INCB president Raymond Yans.

President Mujica accused the INCB of double standards, noting that the board has not commented on similar legalization of marijuana in the US states of Washington and Colorado last year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed concern in June over other countries’ initiatives to legalize soft drugs.

According to state drug control officials, Russia is the world’s largest heroin consumer and some 8.5 million Russians use drugs more or less regularly.

Fuck off Russia. I know we've all had this joke for a long time, but it's time to realize...

Mother Russia, you don't smoke marijuana. Marijuana smokes you!

Russia stop acting like orangutans and start acting like rational humans.

Please tell us why you're concerned or disappointed?

They haven't even said why. There isn't even one rational argument to make any drug illegal... Said from a guy who hardly takes drugs.

Why are dimwits such as this presidents?

Awesome News Service post glaZ! Only 3 posts in! Welcome to the Shroomery!

Seems to me that Russia needs to shut the fuck up and get it's own problems under control before they go and try to tell other countries how they are fucking up.

I love how the author, in this last fatally swooping sentence, reveals his/her position which shows the stupidity and irony of Russia's position as really just another victim of the victimizing war on drugs.

Meanwhile, I hear Russia gets double-teamed as Afghanistan pounds the American protected opium in from the left while that wholesome North Korean meth leaches in from the right through China...or something like that.
North Korea's labs are even said to be somehow government-sanctioned, they sell the goods mostly to China, which breeds addiction and chaos in China and takes their money. 2 birds with one stone; that'd be some smart thinkin' on NK's part.

What about this? wikipedia had this to say: "LGBT rights in Uruguay are among the most liberal in South America. Same-sex sexual activity is legal with an equal age of consent law since 1934, anti-discrimination laws are in place since 2003, gays and lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the military since 2009, same-sex couples have entered into civil unions since 2008 and since 2013, same-sex couples have entered into civil marriages in accordance with the nation's same-sex marriage law passed in early-2013."  LGBT rights in  Uruguay - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting, Russia has at least one province with a hemp leaf on their flag.  Oh, that's right, every other countries police can distinguish cannabis hemp from cannabis indica.

It goes to show what a giant prison camp russia still is. Don't be taken in by putins pr moves or foreign diplomacy. Its still like living in a prison in russia.

Fucking Russia!  Isn't Russia pretty much controlled my the Russian Mafia? :tinfoil:  I'd read one of the Wikileaks documents printed in a Jesse Ventura book, that'd said its believed that The remnants of the old KGB had infiltrated Russian mob, and vica verca.
Apparently by the fall of Communism they were pretty much one and the same. :tinfoil:
