Aesthetic Mushrooms

Hey so me and my mother were wondering if we would be able to set up an indoor "enchanted forest", in large(ish) terrarium with a combination of mosses, plants and mushrooms. Would it be possible to have small mushrooms growing out of the soil/a colonised log for an extended period, or would they only last 2 or three flushes/none at all? I was thinking of perhaps putting some woodchips in a corner of the terrarium and planting a wood lover species in it (panellus stipticus or shitaake, perhaps?), so that its mycelium would not spread across the terrarium substrate and take over. Also I guess this would make contam less likely, right? Is this a viable concept or is it just a pipe dream? Cheers.

Idk but I think one of the most aesthetically pleasing mushrooms is the red reishi. Did I spell that right?

semi's wouldn't work so well, i've found they need extreme sterile procedures, gymnopilus is a good genus

i would suggest you start your mushrooms first and let them establish then add the rest, i've never tried such a thing but it would be cool to see

No mushroom will continue to fruit forever (or very long). That's what they do, colonize the substrate, and when they can spread no further produce fruits to release spores and 'travel' many miles in all directions. Your best bet would be a long-lasting mushroom, and reishi is a very beautiful example of that.

Change of plan; I went out looking for stuff for this project and realised how much of a pain its going to be so I bought a bonsai instead (bad logic, i know), this may or may not end up happening but for now its been postponed!
