Peat problems for my casing layer

I want to make a 50-50 peat verm casing layer.
The problem I have is the peat is mixed with organic matter.
I assume this has nutrient and so promote mold later on in the grow.
If I sterilised the peat and pasteurised the verm what problems do you see me having?
Im in the UK and cant find 100% Peat, any ideas?
I am growing cubes and using rye seed.

you have organic peat? if so that's fine, just pasteurize it after you mix and hydrate. if you sterilize mold will follow for sure. pasteurizing keep certain micro organisms alive that keeps mold out why your mycelium colonizes the substrate

indeed I do. moral of the story, just pasteurize casing. I doubt whatever else, if anything, in the peat will hurt. give her a try and see what happens. good luck

So long as you allow for partial colonization (around 20%) prior to introduction to fruiting you should be fine after pasteurization. Research late casing methods.
By the end of the first flush your casing layer should be fully colonized. I would think that rinsing and pasteurizing should do it right.
