Which species and what part of the world if I may ask?  My original plan was to put some thick hollow stemmed grass like stiltgrass and reed canary over my patch but  it never happened that way because there's always someone looking and carrying trash bags of grass looks wierd.  It got down to 10F last night but appears that the snow has insulated it as mentioned above.  The weather however calls for all the snow to melt and then drop down to 8.  So I'm expecting the same tragity as you are at least  in the spots I seeded which do not benefit from the thermal capacity from a body of water or house foundation.

I don't have anything going yet but I wanna start with Ps. Cyans and Ovoids, then eventually anything else I can get my hands on.

Ehh idc if Leo wants me 1.they need alot more info then just where I am. 2. They probably already have everything they need on me. :paranoid: I live in WI on the edge of zone 5 close to zone 4. Since everything says its possible into zone 4. I'm very hopeful that with a little extra care i can pull this off.

I usually get a couple feet of snow that sticks till spring. I figured that plus some card board and woodchips and they are all set from winter till summer.

Although we are getting a record low -50 Sunday into Monday. And we get a couple days in a row where its like -20ish then like 10 then back into the negatives. That's mostly what I'm worried about is those stretches below freezing.

Corn is heavy starch and carb, look up neut info for grains/nuts, consider wood degredation and release of nutrients. You may be on the right path, just take a look from the outside.. limit nutrients, encourage growth, isolate high penitential, etc

Egg carton is awesome, it's wood pulp of recycled type, provides large amount of processed lignin - gives great consumability and transfer before going to full wood. plenty of soft stuff for myc to consume and adjust diet before taking other lignin consumables. Plently of genetics working hard here on the east coast :goodluck:
