So I've had some problems with my 2 tubs...one smells like a bacterial contaminant (blaming spawn) and the other tub that I accidentally sterilized the cvg mix...looks like it has some trich starting to form.
My picture is terrible but it basically looks like new growth ontop of the substrate, looks like knotting kinda but it's too white and concentrated for it to be that..these have been in fruiting conditions for a few days now though.
I noticed quite a bit of water on top of both tubs yesterday and puddled it all up to one corner and soaked it up with a towel. Both tubs look fully colonized...just sad to see all this possibly going to waste. Any suggestions? Should I spray the trich looking mold with h2o2 or cover with salt or shove a container down into the sub?

On a positive note, one of my buckets is ready to harvest right now, I'll post wet weight along with a couple pics when I'm finished with that. Also doing more agar today so I can attempt some clones.

So anyways I found spots of trich in both of my tubs...so I'ma either say it was due to fruiting before it was fully colonized, though it looked 100% ontop and I even gave it a few more days... or it was my spawn which definitely could be the problem since it was my first time doing G2g.
I went ahead and made a saltwater solution and poured some over each patch of trich, one smaller than the other, but the smaller tub smelling a lot more bacterially contammed.. and then I shoved a glass down attempting to isolate the trich. Hopefully this helps and I can still see a first flush out of these babies =/
Will be keeping a close eye on them in the meantime.
Will also be cleaning out my grow closet and probably lining it with that same thick painters liner I bought for lining my tubs. Painters tape be best for keeping it up? Staple gun maybe?

Staple gun is better than Duct tape, which is better than painters tape.
I am thinking after reading over your post that:
Your spawn is culprit or it was spawned too early, which I am doubting. You used what looks like 7 quarts of spawn WITH 8 quarts coir/2 qt verm, which is a higher % than most use. No doubt it would colonize quick. This is what makes me think that it was not the spawn itself.
However, I am looking at your first post/picture, and I wonder....Did you introduce fruiting conditions to your tubs/buckets in a closet? Closets don't afford good air movement, and can offer trich perfect growing conditions. Why the tubs and not the buckets? It could be a matter of water content of the substrate...the buckets would lose excess water faster being a smaller substrate than the tubs.
These are nothing but theories.

Yeah great theories at that Whippy, things I havent thought of at least thank you for that.
My buckets were also spawned 1:4 ratio and let colonize a lot longer since they needed it of course. I ended up taking 288g wet from one of the buckets today, the other bucket has its first pin, but moved on slower. All of these MS since I just started with agar of course.

I was thinking my spawn could have had been contaminated on my tubs just because it was my first shot at G2G. I still do have 2 jars left over that actually look a bit bacterially contammed, a bit greyer and signs of wet grains sitting next to a really old and slow colonizing jar that looks brighter white and healthy.
So I was just thinking possible bacteria from the beginning from MS inoculation + my first try at G2G could have introduced trich.
And yeah my grow is in the closet, but in my room I always have the closet door open, and I have my fan on low pointing toward the closet, but not in it. And I've already fruited a monotub with MS before, but I hadn't G2Ged them, just from the syringe.
I didnt dunk my grains on my first tub though so it took quite a while to colonize. Man the shroom gods need to tell me what I did wrong! haha :P

I spend quite a bit of time organizing and quarantining "similar" containers. If I do an agar xfer from a "plate" to a jar, I keep them both separated from the rest of the herd for a week or more. This allows me to look at the agar, and see if a contamination popped up. If the agar shows signs of failure, I have to assume the jar will suffer the same fate. ANY master jar associated with a failed plate is treated with hate, and judged throughout its life. EVEN if they look clean, they never make it to bulk substrates with other jars.
This is just a set of redundancy that I like to use to keep things on the up and up.
Anything can happen in a still air box, and it in no way is 100% perfect. It can be however. Being new to that whole process, I would wonder:
How are your SAB procedures? Fans in the room off? Did you give the environment in the SAB sufficient time to settle out the contams to a moist bottom? Bacteria mostly shows up when grains are too wet after cooking....at least in my limited experience. Trich on the other hand is like an in-law that simply won't leave even after the holidays are over. They show up uninvited and unappreciative, and ruin everything.

Haha that's a great way to put it :P In-laws suck!
So basically once you have a clean plate of agar you transfer off that one and then keep the plate going to see if contaminants appear? Then you hate on the masters of course :P I need to wait before these spore I have on agar start up for me, but I'm also pouring 12 more plates tonight, sterilizing agar atm, and then taking some clone/pin samples off my bucket before I lose everything in my closet to trich lmao. I'd need another radiator heater in my pantry to be able to move anything away in there...unless I wanted to put them in my room I guess.
My SAB procedures are pretty good, I wear gloves, sleeves, hairnet, surgeon mask, turn my room fan off, shut my door, shut my closet door (where everything takes place) I spray my closet down with lysol or whatever, use lots of alcohol soak paper towels and wipe my SAB with soapy water, leave some on the bottom. And usually half baked so I'm concentrated with my movements like good ol' TL =)
But who knows what coulda happened... coulda been old spores from my first grow that fucked everything up probably. Need to line my closet and clean that bitch! Live in a shitty old house so yeah I shoulda expected contams but I just havent had them due to how clean I try to be!

I figured the trich would spread a bit even with what I did to try and fix it..unfortunately I dont have a place outside I could really bury it, my neighborhood is sketch haha. Gunna probably toss these and hope for better luck next time :/
I did however pour 12 more agar plates last night and cloned a couple lil guys from my buckets. Threw a pin on one, and took like 5 clones.
I really just want something to grow on my petris already! The spores I put on a few last weeks still havent done anything...but in the middle it looks like water or something is over the spores? Is that normal for pda to do that? I kinda pushed the inoculation loop into the middle when getting the spores off it, and it seems to be 'leaking'...I'm such an agar noob! lol

don't worry about it, your clones will take right off anyway, sounds like your agar was a little soft, next time just srteak your loop across

So I dont have to worry about the spores I already put down? Thanks for being positive, kinda ina shitty mood after losing both tubs /=
Lucky for me I planned a bit ahead and have plenty of grow bags, agar, and plates to hopefully make it somewhere. Also 39 bricks of coir and like 60 lbs of birdseed... I just needa put that PC to use when I get something clean

great to hear, thats the best part about keeping busy, when you lose something you always got something else to look foreward too and no need to worry about your spores, if it works it works and if not you got your clones to back ya up

for sure, I just hope they really take off, first time cutting from the inside of the stem ina SAB so I probably got it hella contammed who knows :P I did flame sterilize, cool it down on the side of agar first, then rip and cut and transfer...I guess we'll see, I'll post pics in a different thread or something and show how I did it, if it works ;D

No pour agar is agar that is pre mixed and PC'd in the container. Something that can survive a PC cycle like a jar or pp5 plastic. The sleeves of plates are poured in a SAB from a flask after PCing. I use those for antibiotic agar simply because the antibiotic needs to be added when the agar is cooling, it will not survive a PC cycle.
I love the no pour tek!! Thank you so much!
If an antibiotic specs mentions "autoclavable", won't it survive a PC cycle?

Gentamicin is able to be PC’d but I’m too cheap to buy it. It can also be rendered inert if sterilized too long so watch your times.
