Were these picked or purchased dried? Can you see any blue discoloration on the stipe (try to break one and look on the inside of the stem)?

They look a little strange, though it could just be the lighting.
Dry mushrooms can be difficult to identify though these do resemble P.cubensis
Check for blue areas on the mushrooms

I thought they might be one of the 'rust-spore' varieties, they do look like cubensis, but slightly unusual, stems look too long and regular. But, if you're seeing no bluing, they could be an Agrocybe species or something. Also, the shape would suggest they were growing horizontally, from a stump for example. Or a PFcake, come to think of it.

Im %98 sure they are cubensis. Especially if that is what they were sold to you as.
Cube stems are very distinct when dry. These are just a little over mature and ugly.

I'm trying to understand this correctly, OP bought these mushrooms dried? They are clearly brown spored, I would not recommend eating them, and I definitely wouldn't call them cubensis.

Thanks for your help... We were leaning towards them being kit grown. They just look different then any that I've seen. My girl is freaking cause there is no blue on them.

Sometimes my cubes leave crazy brown spores

What else could these be? Dry Agrocybe have a browner stem with different texture.
Too long for a hebeloma.... These look identical to many poorly grown "street cubes" I see.
Also, remember that this is meaningless

Im not too convinced these are active, lack of blueing and lack of stem butts, id like to see if they were indoor cult or not, if so then your good, but i would NOT eat these.

Call me crazy, but I still have lttle, to no doubt in my mind that they are cubensis

The only trait that is wrong is the color of the gills. However I have seen that color many times on cultivated cubes. (Especially with that lighting)
I still feel almost certain they are Ugly P.cubensis
No clue what else they could be? I have dried Agrocybe aegerita and putaminum and they look nothing at all like this. The cubensis stem in particular is also incredibly distinct when dry.
Also, I see a purple black spore deposit here

A few months ago someone posted pictures of similar cubes and Every single person except me said they were definitely not cubes. OP ate them anyway and reported back they were in fact cubes.
Dry mushrooms are hard to identify, and P.cubensis may have a plethora of variables. Non the less I find it an incredibly distinct mushroom, fresh or dry.

Lesson learned...and that guy is a douche..cant wait to run into him again.. grrrr...
Thanks for all the replies.
