This is the prime season for Oysters. Nights hovering around freezing... Seems to keep the bugs away.

Seems to be under that umbrella... There are probably many distinct species under the name H. repandum, but you definitely have one of the sweet tooth fungi. Do you have a pic of the stem?

I have seen a few of those, albeit much smaller here in GA. Also, have you seen any of the Hericium species? I find them every now and again. They're quite tasty if you catch them in their prime. Do you know what type of wood it was growing from?
