New grower looking for some specific info
    #19328653 - 12/26/13 12:34 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Im going to start growing for the first time without a grow kit. I've done some research but need some extra information so i wondered if someone could answer the following questions.

If i use rye seed and water in a jar and i pour it out into a large incubator when its colonized, can it be spread out thin so i get the most surface area for more mushrooms to grow? Or is the growth affected by the thickness of the mycelium?

If surface area is a key factor in how many mushrooms grow, is rye seed and water better than the solid mycelium cakes because the rye seed can be poured over large areas? To me the cakes seem a waste because the shrooms obviously only grow on the outside so all the stuff in the center is wasted. Or will the shrooms have more of a base to grow on and grow bigger and closer together?

Finally, with the grow kit i use a heat mat to keep the temperature at 27 degrees Celsius because they already are colonized. But doesnt the temperature need to be higher for mycelium growth than fruiting so how do i get the temperature higher if it needs to be? (Its cold where i live).

Thanks you for reading.

Welcome.
1. Go with the pf tek if its your first grow.
2. The depth of the "substrate" should be between 2~4", 3" is supposedly the best.
3. Heat the room not the fruiting chamber. It will mess with your Relative Humidity..
4. Look into frankhorrigan, and how he gets Shit done.

Only 3 things you really need to know here:

1 - Follow the TEK exactly. Whichever one you're using. I'd follow FrankHorrigan if I were you.

2 - Ignore Anne Halonium. They're just ridiculous. They will produce you mushrooms, but they'll be sad little things with small yields compared to what you could do. Violet's not much better, but at least (s)he can type so that it's not a pain to read.

3 - Read some legit books. Paul Stamets is a great author. Read all about mycology and general microbiology, not just about growing Cubensis.

i recommend common sense and figuring it out.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.

annie says.......

1. go with V-tek first time around.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18135103
2.subs should be 1-2 inches in v -tek, since its a nute hotter sub.
3.build an incubator, its half the price of heating the room first
  month alone in electric costs.
4 . definately ignore frank horrigan.

the new age peeps want ya to grow .

most of all, ask yourself,
what 36F5, nota, and blojo , dont want you to see.........

(ill tell ya,
if ya see modern clean well equipped grows, they seem ridiculous... )

annie also says .........

5. move to somewhere below the tundra line:thumbup:
6. you can listen to cronic only when he agrees with us.
hes in recovery, sometimes he falls back with trichsters.

in the new age, growers have choices.
choose the least trichy path.

glad i got here just in time.:rabble:
