needing help with first time decisions.

Okay funds are very limited on my first project. Since I don't have access to a P.C. So the plan thus far is to buy 1 lb sterilized rye grain and 2 lbs of pasteurized manure and straw substrate. I know its not very much but for its the best I can do for what I have at the moment. Should I fruit outside of the bags or should I use the bags to fruit. If I use the bags should I poke holes down it like RR does in his video with the arrow head? any suggestions would be much appreciated. THank you.

seriously, save up and do it right.
we see these threads every week. odds are overwhelming, youll set yourself back months playing around.
natuurally, ill be attacked for that statement. youll listen to the peanut gallery, who will agree with you sorta. and do as ya wish anyway.......
in the meantime, hedge your bets. read the violet tek. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18135103
then in a few months, when ya realize the score, ya can gather supplies and do it right.
best of luck.

While you do need a PC to sterilize grain spawn, you do not need one to pasteurize. Get the spawn, but forget the sub and buy yourself some coir super cheap and pasteurize it yourself. Coir is nearly impossible to fuck up, I have been sterilizing my coir recently with no issues. Then build a monotub and spawn the colonized grains to your pasteurized coir and verm and your good to go.
As for your method of growing down the road when you have some real funds to play with (and this hobby is not cheap initially) I say check out as many ways to grow as possible. See what suits your style and roll with it.

I'm with Pasty.
It's super easy to pasteurize coir and verm, which is cheap too.
Spawn your grain and that into a 66qt tub n get $ for a pc.
There's no right or wrong way to go about it, dodge the troll's opinion.

absolutely update.
usually what happens is we dont hear from 50% of these posters again. half, dont buy a PC, riun it, and lose faith, and move on to MHRB and milk jugs.
out of the other half, half of those get lucky ,and become PHD mycologist instantly . the other half, pop up on a thread, and tell noobs " get a PC" and, in a year or so, are actually growers......... 100's of dollars wiser in lost supplies and electric bills.
so absolutley update.
not trying to be an spoiler here. im telling you a 30$ PC , will make all the difference.
i rarely wish anyone luck. its too cheap and easy. im wishing you equipment and skill. the rewards are way higher.

I'm not gonna ever tell someone to not get a PC Unless its for a sterilizer
But if someone has limited funds and does plan to get proper equipment later, I see no reason to start without a PC. I would advocate doing pf tek at that point to get there feet wet with prep work and inoculation. However in the big picture, (I can't believe I am saying this) anne's right about getting a PC ASAP. Not having one is ok for your first shot at seeing if you like this hobby, but the idea of doing cakes or buying spawn bags for 2 years is just painful.

I am definitely getting a pc. I know they are a must have item for this hobby. If all goes well I will have all the proper equipment before my next grow. I will get a few prints after this one fruits. With any luck that is. While I am waiting on my second flush I'll start trying to isolate a strain using agar. I'm excited about the whole process. I know I'll be starting to do that really early compared to most people. I feel confident I can though. I have been studying this site, a few books, and of course RR's videos for the last 6 months or so. I've got a couple notebooks full of notes. I realize knowing the process and actually doing it is two different things. I feel pretty good about it though. Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it.
