It's kind of cool but personally I'd much rather be really good at playing music or something.

Pretty much everyone who's really good at something has put a lot of work into it, so in a sense they have chosen it (in addition to probably having a natural aptitude.) I'd rather put that kind of work into music than video games, and good musicians are more impressive to me than good video game players. Someone with great natural dexterity and reflexes could probably do quite well at either.

lets assume you can 'choose'.
i dont think it's wise to choose the most impressive
but rather the most self gratifying
for some people that is being impressive.
not for others

I didn't say I would choose music on the basis that it would be impressive to others. It's impressive to me personally though when someone is a good musician.

Fair enough. I mean it's the same kind of thing as being good at a sport or something, it may not be what I'm into personally but I can respect that it takes a lot of skill and dedication.

Ellis Dee said: It reminds me of super mario bros. I was one of the best in the world att hat game, beat it in under 14 minutes as I knew all the level warps and everything. My times were on par with the best submitted to nintendo power magazine. All in all I guess it would have been better for my development to have had a friend to play with instead. Maybe.
The original SMB's for Nintendo can be beaten in less than 10 minutes. When you get to the blue looking stage on the first level I think it was, where the music gets sinister, you can take an elevator to the very top of the screen and run all the way to the end and will take you to the final levels. It's cheating pretty much.

I thought everyone knew about that. I never had a NES as a kid but everyone I knew who did knew about the warp zone. Same with the warp whistles on SMB3.

Its not cheating if those shortcuts are put in the game lol. They are there for a reason so why not use them?

Yeah it obviously is an intentional part of the game.
I never played through it without warping until recently, and a lot of the levels you skip over are just rehashes of previous levels with a few things changed to make them more difficult.
