Timing

Do you think that taking psychedelics later in life, after having experienced more of the world, will get you more out of the experience? Or do you perhaps think that taking them early on in life, say 17 or so, is a better choice as you might choose a different path to go down?

I'm rather young myself, but my suspicion is that tripping at an older age will be more reflective and help put the pieces together of seemingly unrelated events in life. Very therapeutic and good for finding closure on difficult experiences. That said, trip young to expand yer mind and set positive forces in motion

I'll be watching this thread for responses from the old timers.

I think tripping when your are younger may give your more insight on life and maybe more options of paths you may want to explore in life. I feel like tripping when your older would be a more relective trip, or maybe one giving some closure about events coming up such as death, or spiritual connections they haven't been able to establish yet.

I'm a bit spun right now but just some thought.. hehe :mushroom2: :rasta:

I think they both have their benefits.

17 might be slightly too young for some kids who lack maturity of being unable to understand a trip well enough to assess, interpret and reflect upon the experience, though.

I do feel like tripping at a young age might give the young tripper realizations that his fellow peers and friends haven't been able to discover because of there age and or lack of psychedlic practices in thier life, which could cause a feeling of loneliness or disconnection in the young ones life.

Unless they can come the certain realizations while still knowing how to fit in enough to function as much as needed in society to fulfill their lifestyle. :cookiemonster:

As you guys all said, I think it goes both ways.

Tripping at a younger age may reveal some concepts and questions that one hadn't thought of before. As Aciddreamer mentioned, it can "set positive forces in motion"; if used with the right set and setting, psychedelic experience can open up the potential of the young adult's mind. I personally had my first psilocybin experience when I was 17, and I believe that it truly pushed me along my spiritual path. I came to peace with many subconscious distresses, as well as the loss of several loved ones, and I felt a rekindling of my connection with the natural world.

I also think that tripping at an older age can have its benefits. I can't say much from personal experience as I am still relatively young, but I imagine that there is a possibility of falling into the monotony of societal life. Psychedelics can spark the creative mind in some people, so it could possibly have benefits to the state of mind of someone older.

Hard to say. I started at 16 or 17 and continue to take them now that I'm 38. Best of both worlds?

Someone older here, I forget who, said and I paraphrase that tripping is better now because his mind is like a library and now its full of so many more books.
I feel that way too. When I was 18 I didn't know shit and the experience was way too heavy. I can't believe I took acid at 15, way way to early. Now all the trips are good and it's easy to turn the bummers around. It's hard to say why. For a while I thought the stress of parents and shit just gave me too much guilt. Maybe you need your own place to trip as a bare minimum. When I was 16 I think I touched one boob, now when I hit replay in my memory it's like Brazzers. I really am a very different person. Maybe you are a 20 year old with it totally together, it is possible. Most typical 20 year olds are really not very mature, I thought I was but I wasn't.
I met one or two people who went from teenagers to middle age doing it continually with no problems. Almost everyone quits acid permanently at some point though, that is very much the norm. Are your parents or their friends still dropping? The number of people who dropped in the 60's and are still doing to today is probably very small and it doesn't go up much for the 70's  or 80s trippers either. Almost everyone quits acid, remember that.

I know my trips were a lot more mindblowing when I was younger. But I don't know if that's cause I have more life experience now or if it's because I've already tripped hard before. I think it's a little of both.

Hmm...

Interesting question. I'm under 21 (technically still a kid) so I can't explain how it is to trip as an adult. However, as a kid, I find it sometimes hard to relate to others my age after tripping. You understand the makings of this world a lot better, and in a more integrated manner. Your opinions, values, and beliefs may change based on what you see, and you may or may not like your new perspective. It's not necessarily a bad thing that you see things differently from people your age. In fact, I think it's pure enlightenment. Since tripping, I have been able to understand complex concepts a lot easier (such as quantum mechanics and string theory). Things just make a bit more sense, you'll have to see for yourself.

Plus there are other kids that trip and think just like you do. It's not like you're fully isolated from your peers. Also, you can always try to show them the light.

I had just turned 16 when I decided to ingest an 8th my 1st trip ever, but I was mature for my age.
