I poured plates for the first time, need some ID's

As the title states I jumped into agar work. I now have some questions about what's growing in them.
P.serbica from spores. What's the discoloration in the middle?
.

Oyster transfer.

P.baeocystis from spores. Is that healthy myc?

I don't know really what to expect here but I think the serbica has some contams but I'm not really sure. Thanks for the help!

Looks like it may be a contaminant from another species of fungus on the serbica.
Also there is a contaminant next to your oyster culture.
The baeo looks alright.

Yeah your probably right. It's just weird how both spots are right where clumps of spores are.
Do you think I could isolate away from the contams?

I think it makes perfect sense that the contams are right where you put a bunch of wild collection spores.
This one might not be a win. The mycelium of serbica is weak.
You might as well wait to see what happens. How many plates of serbica did you make?

I made two plates of serbica and I still have a print to work with. The second plate has no action yet.
I will make a few more tomorrow I think. Man it looked great until that color showed up!

How long have you had them on agar? I would be weary about anything that was faster than about a week.
Serbica is slow on top of being weak.
I don't know from experience. I had some barely alive given to me and tried to save it but trich had other plans.

They were knocked up about 10 pm last Saturday. Granted I was drinking whiskey to stay warm in a frigid lab, I tried to be as careful as possible. All of my control plates are still clean.
If the white rhizos continue to run past the colored middle spot I will isolate it and see what species it is at least?!?
Serbica being slow and weak. Is that typical from experience of others or is that just a widely known fact?

Isolating the growth just to make sure is a good idea.
Slow growth was the experience of a friend of mine.

I'm thinking so too and I love thinking I'm a scientist while using a scalpel so it's an excuse to play out my nerd fantasy.
Hopefully If it is indeed serbica, I can isolate it and have some faster growing genetics. Yay!

Would streaking the wild spores across the plate give more chance for mycelium to pop out, among the contams, and be isolated?

do you mean isolated away from contams or strain isolations? don't isolate strains for anything that takes that long and goes outdoors theres no way to test it but yes i streak mine to isolate away from contams, hows about an update?

UPDATE!
The above plate got out of control too fast but the second P.serbica plate germinated and I was able to do two transfers from it to new plates. They are doing well with nice rhizos coming outl. There is a few satellite colonies on one so I will have to do another set of transfers. What do you think?

Might as well document the progress, maybe I should ask to have this moved to grow logs. Anyways...
I noticed some bacterial contams on both of the transfer plates so I decided I better act quick. I might 5 transfers total. Notice how the master plate (the one with the streak) is not contam'd and looks really healthy. It's got a lot of genetics going on.
Transfer 1

Transfer 2

Master plate looking good!

Merging

Hopefully I'm going in the right direction here.
