Me and my brother still play the original super smash bro's on a daily basis. We've been playing daily for around 2 years now (nobody else can play with us, we got too good)
I am somewhat proud of my skills

Oh I miss playing that game so much! Mario 64, SSB, Mario Kart, and 007 golden eye were the best games ever

The awkward moment when you search speedrun "insert favourite childhood game here" and find out someone has beat a game in 2 hours... rather than their entire childhood

man, mario 64 was too hard for me as a kid. I've never tried it since.
Maybe it's time.

It reminds me of super mario bros. I was one of the best in the world att hat game, beat it in under 14 minutes as I knew all the level warps and everything. My times were on par with the best submitted to nintendo power magazine. All in all I guess it would have been better for my development to have had a friend to play with instead. Maybe.

damn, that sounds like some skills. I don't even know what level warps are.
Ever played in a tournament though? Or at least against a wide variety of people?

Nope, I didn't get out at that age. I didn't even have another little friend to play it with. All I did was play the one single game I had and get all the tips on it from nintendo power I had the subscription to. Looking back on it now, it seems like more of a defect in development than anything. I should have had a friend, every little kid should have a friend, but I didn't.

It is what it is. Not sad though, just a less optimized childhood I guess. The only thing I find sad about it is that I did that with mario bros instead of chess. If I'd done that with chess I'd have been one of these 10 year old masters they call a prodigy. As it was I just had the one interest and no friend and didn't use it for anything useful. It doesn't matter now, and I guess it didn't really matter then either.

Anyone know if the Mario 64 port for DS is any good? I was thinking I might get a copy if I can find it used for cheap.

dont worry.
it takes their entire childhood to acquire the muscle memory to do a proper speedrun.

Wow that's eat but I'm not jealous. He has wasted too much time on one game and on a game period.
And the ds port is awesome man! The graphics are beautiful and I loved playing as the other characters too, they all got different special abilities and weaknesses. And also you have to chase these rabbits to get the mini games unlocked that are pretty fun if you have someone trying to beat ur records.
