Looks like a Gymn, but the stems are interesting. Reminds me of a Cortinarius.

Yeah I can see that, although I'd expect the annulus to be more pronounced.

It is a Gymnopilus, but not G. sapineus. Microscopy is probably needed to determine the species.

Yeah, they're very cool things. Solid as wood. I was hoping for them to bruise for their habitat... If there were that many active Gyms in a pine tree farm...

Hmm, I have been searching for these quite often recently. And I'm on the coastal part of georgia. Where are you having luck searching for these this time of year? Habitat, etc.. If you didn't mind
