Hi, My "friend" has acquired a peyote plant with the root attached. It is a twin, (two buttons connected to same root). The size of each button is 5cm h x 5cm w. What would be the best way for my friend to dry these? Also would these be enough for 1 dose? They are said to be 6 years old. If they are not enough for my friend, he will combine them with a san pedro concoction. below is pic

That is likely not enough for a dose on its own however with san pedro it should alter the experience slightly. Do not consume with the roots as they contain bacteria which may prove deadly. Cut the lopho leaving a few areolas on the roots so that they pup and you can grow them without killing them. You should just eat them fresh after taking your concoction.

thank you. so would my friend cut right at where the brown rooting starts, or slightly above it leaving a small amount of green just above the roots? Also my friend was interested in possibly drying them to reduce the amount of bulk to digest along with the pedro. My friend does not boil pedro, but drinks it raw. To help others: My friend's best method of pedro prep is to slightly boil them for 20 min in long slices cut along the lines. This makes peeling the green inner part very easy and quick. After all inner green matter has been removed, all skin and white matter is disposed of. Drink the green inner matter raw. Boiling it destroys it's soul and this method has been shown to replicate a heavy dose of LSD. I do not understand how some people say they get no affect from pedro. You guys are cooking it too long or got a bad batch or are not being given blessings from the cactus. Think of it as a vegetable. You do not heavily boil vegetables, that destroys vital nutrients.

Cut slightly above the roots leaving a little bit of green with 1 or more white dots(areolas)... after the cut has hardened(calloused) plant them in a quick draining soil. Natives remove the tuffs(fur) however it is not deadly as far as I am aware. Just dry the cactus using some fans and or heat. Chop them up so that it drys quicker.

would slicing in thin slices and placed in the sun destroy alkaloids? My friend has no oven, but has a fan, and a rooftop with direct sunlight. My friend would probably remove the fur. Some have said it contains strick nine, and I have seen native Americans remove them and say not to eat them.

The sun would not damage the alkaloids careful if they don't dry quickly they may mold.

ok thanks, one last question, how long would it stay fresh for attached to the root? Will it start to rot if my friend does not consume immediately? Would placing in the fridge extend it's lifespan?

It'll survive for months as is. Even when you chop it, as long as it's not dried, it should last for quite some time.
