Habitat: Found these mushrooms in the park in Waikiki. It is a city setting. The park is located about 250 yards from the beach.
They were growing out from under the blades of grass
Gills : Brown to grey
Bruising: They seem to bruise dark grey-ish. Maybe blue?? I cant really say its a true blue....more grey-ish black
My Wife insists that they are more blue-ish black bruising
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Aloha!

they appear to resemble Panaeleous sp. If that's a jet black spore print you've got yourself a sweet find!

Cool Panaeolus, can you dry these? It would be cool to identify them properly.

They are super blue, why not call them Panaeolus cyanescens? I thought all the old bluing copelandia are P. cyanescens now..?

Nope, there are a bunch of others which require microscopy to distinguish. Copelandia cyanescens is a common one though.

Hey guys so I have a picture of the many that we have been picking over the past couple days. they are pretty dry. most of the stems have shrunk to almost nothing.
The newer looking ones have been drying for about 8 hours. i have laid them out on a piece of paper and most of the moisture has evaporated.
first two are a close up of a pretty dry one.
the third picture is a few i found this morning. they have been drying about 8 hours.
then the last picture is everything I have found drying out.
I would like to eat these. can I?

Wooot!
Oh yeah! How much fun life is!
we have been talking about growing our own mushies. And BOOM! the mushies found us first! How truly magical these guys are.
I was down on all fours this morning crawling in the grass. My eye intently searching the surface of the grass line. Then I suddenly realized. this is exactly what I need to be doing!

You can, but you shouldn't. Please save at least a couple of specimens for identification. Were there any herbivore droppings where they were growing? Were they growing directly on them, or from the soil? These do not look macroscopically like C. cyanescens, and don't seem to share the habitat. I believe they could be a far more interesting species of Panaeolus. It would be great if you could send some dried samples to a skilled microscopist to see what you really have.

They were growing out from under the grass. I didnt see any droppings around. And can't think of any herbivore that would be in the park in the city.
They seem to like areas where the grass becomes less dense, almost like the brown spots of the grass. Also most of the ones I find grow about 25 ft. from this tree in an open field. But this particular grass I have noticed seems to hold the morning dew well.
Were gonna munch these little guys today. And yes I'll save some samples!
You guys are awesome thanks for the help!

Quite possible the park lawns are fertilized with manure.

Hey guys, did a little munchin today. These are most definitely active.
I have another question.
Is it possible to over harvest an area? Because everday there are like 4 or 5 new little wonders shooting out of the ground. What are your thoughts? Should i bang one of the harvested around to spread some spores?

You cant over harvest as long as you dont disrupt the mycelium. Wait for those wonders to grow up! you can bang one around, but it wont do much, mushrooms are very good at releasing spores by themselves
