Portland Police Chief Mike Reese rescues pot brownie-eating dog
    #19317775 - 12/23/13 06:52 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Portland Police Chief Mike Reese transported a dog reportedly suffering from an overdose of pot brownies to an animal hospital Monday night.

The chief tweeted that he encountered a homeless man when a downtown business called authorities to report a dog having convulsions.

Reese and his partner transported the man, his shopping cart and the dog to Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Northwest Portland after the man told them the "dog may have eaten too many pot brownies," said Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman.

The chief's tweets and photos of the man's white-muzzled dog wrapped in a dark blanket and resting in a gray crate were later deleted from the chief's Twitter feed. Simpson didn't know why the tweets were taken down.

Dove Lewis cited hospital policy not to discuss its patients or their owners, but Dr. Meimei Welker, a veterinarian at the animal hospital, said dogs overdosing on marijuana make frequent appearances in the emergency room.

"We see them pretty consistently. We can almost diagnose it as soon as they walk in the door," Welker said.

What does a dog on pot look like? Its walking will be unstable, the vet said. It may be hypersensitive to touch, sound and light and generally jumpy. It may also appear groggy. But the primary clue to a dog's consumption of marijuana: It will likely leak urine.

Welker gave an example: A 20-pound dog that has consumed a brownie with marijuana suitable for a 160-pound adult human would have ingested something like eight times the human dose.

At a lower level of ingestion, the dog might appear mellow, she said. But at a higher amount of pot, a dog could be in some discomfort for as much as 12 hours, racking up hundreds of dollars worth of emergency treatment, she said.

I have seen dogs that were given too much Benadryl by their owners accidentally act exactly the way described, still not a pleasant site watching a helpless animal robotrip. Kinda scary actually

Animals and drugs don't mix well, it's really sad and horrible to see them go through somehting that obviously scares the hell out of them.
My poor husky is an escape artist, this also means shes managed to open bedroom doors and pull cupboards out to find things she shouldn't. before i learnt to hide things high up, she's gotten a hold of an 1/8 cubes, a 400mg cheeba chew and a medicated rice crispy. She pulled through with flying colors every time. The odd thing is, before any of this happened she was very stubborn and would not learn commands. since then (and she hasn't managed to eat anything in 2 years knock on wood)shes become very obedient knows more commands than my border collie and has stopped trying to chase my wifes cat.

uhmmm it's called HIPA you dipshits.  yes, it is a law.

anyways.  how the fuck does a homeless dude get enough pot brownies to fucktard a dog?

oh wait... aren't dogs allergic to chocolate?  Hmmm.... so the convulsions probably had NOTHING to do with the pot.

BASTARDS.

Gosh you sure do appear to be  angry.

My guess is you really  need to get fucked.

Turn off your computer and go fuck that pretty young girl that lives down the road from you.

It would blow your mind how good you will feel after.

Perhaps then you wont be so miserable.:mad2:

First of all, it's HIPAA.  The push to implement it is pretty much completely over by now, but I did a good bit of IT consulting work getting medical practices compliant with the law.  Secondly, HIPAA in no possible interpretation applies to any type of veterinary medicine.

Merry x-mas to you man :bunnyhug:  Just relax a bit yeah?
