Spawn or g2g?

I currently have a quart jar of rye berries doing quite well in the growth department and I had initially planned on g2g and get a big bulk tub going. As it nears full colonization though, I'm having second thoughts about the g2g. I don't have a flow hood and for some reason I don't trust my STAB with g2g. Should I just spawn the 1 quart rye to 2 quarts coir/verm mix? I'm assuming the same substrate depth rule applies to smaller operations?

G2G is easy iv done tons of it in my SAB without any contam problems. you can end up with a boat load of spawn and your jars will colonize way faster than with spores.

hey man, i have dont TONS of jars g2g wise. it's a great method, you don't HAVE to have a flowhood. just when you set the lids down, dont turn them upside down, put them back down right side up, and spray the air inside and your arms down with lysol really well before hand.

g2g without a flowhood is risky, on top of that if you are inexperienced will likely increase the time your grains will be exposed
if you wanna multiple your mycelium biomass, g2g is not the only efficient option GLC is even better in some aspects I've had good results with it, you may wanna look into it

t's really not risky at all without a flowhood. flowhoods are nice, but non-essential

compare the exposed area of your master jar AND your receiving jar, with the exposed area of a needle that was just red hot a sec before of being used for inoculation
g2g is good but GLC is just as good and a lot easier to perform

I've done a lot of jars, and only had two go. both times i left the lids upside down when i went to set them down to transfer the grain.
I would argue that g2g is easier considering it is has less steps involved. i mean, work with what you got. if you have a liquid culture go for it. if you have spores in a syringe, go for it. at some point you should be using a sterile needle somewhere in the process. but yeah g2g is baus

I just wanted to give OP an alternative , he said he is uncomfortable with g2g since he prbly never done it before
not all have to be g2g, you have another option as efficient if not more(with one GLC you can inoculate 100's of jars)

I only plan on using LC with a clean agar wedge and that's only bec I like using spawn bags lately. When I use jars agar wedges and g2g all the way.
