Questions about a few ingredients

My first question is about rye. Does rye grass seed work as well as rye grain. Or is it the same thing
Second one is about gypsum. Can you substitute hydrated lime? Or again is it the same thing?

Use cereal rye (annual rye, winter rye) for making spawn. It is not the same as rye grass which is very small. Gypsum is calcium sulfate you cannot sub hydrated lime for gypsum

Rye grass seed is very expensive compared to cereal rye. Any seed can theoretically be used for spawn.

Ok I got calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate( I think that's what it was) mixed up. I have looked several of places locally. All I seem to find is rye grass seed. I was wanting to try rye but I may just stick with my WBS. And the hunt continues for gypsum now

Rye berries at the local health food store are what you re looking for. gypsum will be sold at ag supply/gardn center. Pellitized gypsum is fine. It is agricultural grade.

And as far as the gypsum goes. Can I just purchase powdered joint compound for drywall? I've heard something about that.
