So, today i have an ID request, lots of habitat pics and a funny story. let's do em in that order. these were found in the same old soccer field as the Agaricus. the stem was hollow, i believe. now for the Agaricus...this is the old soccer field i hunt they were hiding very well in the unmaintained grass and these i just thought looked cool... and the story...when i was walking back to the car, i saw an old man fishing. i went over to see if he was catching anything and we got to talking... so he finally asks what in the world i am doing with all these mushrooms and i told him, i love mycology and i found these so i am taking them to eat. his mouth dropped open and he stared blankly at me for 20 seconds or so then he gave me this sort of sad look after coming to a conclusion in his head. he then says "Well, i don't want to offend you...I don't have much, I'm just out fishing with my grandson but I do have $5..." .... i say, sure! how many mushrooms would you like? you dont have to pay me for them, i have plenty. then he chuckles and says, "No, no...i don't like mushrooms, thank you. But if you would let me, i would like to give you $5." ....... im very confused at this point and i ask him, why would you want to just give me five dollars? im not sure i understand... he says "For whatever you might need...drinks or food (points at my mushrooms with a weird look) or just whatever you may need." he thinks im homeless and hunting for my homeless dinner!! i just laughed and explained i was just doing this for fun and collecting when i find something good to eat WITH my dinner, at my HOME my wife has been telling me for a few weeks that my beard makes me look like a "hippie hobo" lol....i guess the old man proved her point! lol...well thanks and hope you enjoyed my day as much as i did! happy holiday hunting!!!

Curiously funny story - you were actually both harvesting from the wild!
Congrats on the Agaricus!

Thank you River and Angler! Yeah, he was a really nice man. Especially to offer a total stranger some money for food He also showed me an awesome spot on the lake right there for crappie now! I'm thinking of going out Christmas day and trying to get some fresh fish!!! Can't wait to bust out my rod and reel

So have you been returning to this one field, hitting many ball fields, or are you finding them all around your neck of the woods? I primarily find oysters down in the river flats. Just roam around the banks checking every dead oak, willow, elm, poplar or sycamore. Its hit or miss once you're in that habitat. About one in every 10-15 logs will harbor.

Hmmmm...I've got three major river that run right through Rome...ill have to hit the rivers and start looking...I already have a few areas in mind, thank you very much kind sir! As for your question, its a big school campus I go to that has two baseball and one very larger old soccer field. The old soccer field is where its at! I have found lbs and lbs in that one field in just the last week and a half or so. Too can tell the grass is very thick and the majority of them don't grow above the top of the grass...good micro climate? The baseball fields are a lot more scattered...I think one is a practice field and one the use...the practice field has five or six fairy rings while the field in use only has one or two. I think they had time to completely take over the soccer field because I noticed they don't grow in rings there, just long lines, mostly.
