work
    #19315657 - 12/23/13 10:47 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Who wants a specialized job?  Who doesn't want, instead, a meaningful role?  We're going to have to overhaul the entire concept of work in the coming years (due to overwhelming automation, which eventually will replace everyone).  Is this a suggestion of something feasible?  Why not set about thinking about all of this... right now?

you can have a robot shoemaker
but an expert shoe artizan will put something into it that no robot fabrication system could have conjured up.
something from his personal experience as a person
something that connects him to his customer.

I wish I were a shoe maker.

of course the fact that leather, when tanned, is soaked in shit and piss kind of grosses me out, and I am happy if it is done by machines and I don't have to think about it.

I'm a proponent of Basic Income with no strings attached.  I don't believe that humans are naturally lazy or indolent.  The key is to understand human nature as much as possible so that people can be steered appropriately to the activities that they find most enriching.  We need to understand the social sciences with the level and precision that we do the natural sciences for this work perfectly, but I envision a utopia where people self-organize into appropriate professions and lifestyles like tissues in an organism.

I'm gonna do what I want! And I'm gonna get paid!

I think we all should have the option of just laying around, writing poetry, playing games, eating gourmet food, getting high, and following every whim unless it hurts someone. Our days should be filled with frolicking, fornicating, and fun-having. And we should have laptops that can give us on-demand blowjobs while surfing on our favorite internet websites, like Shroomery!! :sexymeow:

best post ever

It’s the best post ever because it’s the best idea ever and all of you know it!!!! We need to unchain ourselves my brothers! To unshackle the corporate-branded handcuffs of those barbarous and obsolete terms: work and labor!

Like gazing longingly at the supple fat chick in the corner with massive jugs spilling out of her obviously undersized corset. She’s waiting for you.  A fat prize awaits my brothers! We need to tell our friends that yes, I want to fuck life! And I don’t give a damn what you think! Well you know what? It’s time to face our fears! To tell the man that NO, I do NOT have a medical slip for my week-long absence! To tell the executive vice president what you really think of his stupid little stamp collection! They say that life imitates art more than art imitates life – well I’m gonna imitate the most hedonistic, depraved little fuckfest, better than anything de Sade or Rimbaud could ever conjure up!

The politicians and industrialists may scoff at us, calling our ilk slackers, irresponsible, rife with know-nothingism. Well fuck responsibility, and it’s not know-nothingism, it’s do-nothingism! And I think doing nothing is just as great as doing something, except I’m not wasting my time doing it!

It’s about time somebody stood up for us. For the lazy folk! Somebody’s got to do it! There’s gotta be a better place in this world than what’s usually reserved for the lazy. Something better than the back of the welfare line!

And we can start by inventing laptops that mechanically suck your dick!!!

:ducklol:

And what is the alternative if automation and technology make human labor unnecessary?  Should we just slaughter everyone who is not part of the ownership class or cut them out of civilization to live or die as beasts in the wild?

That, indeed, is the point.  This is a real and a potentially catastrophic problem.  By necessity, the number of jobs available is only going to decrease significantly in the next couple of decades, while the global population in that timeframe will have surpassed ten billion.

What are we going to do with all these people?

Nobody wants a specialized job.

We don't need responsibilities or a government or police or countries or pride in race or nationality or money or anything other than our feelings, personalities and our brains.

Everything would happen. There would be as much order as you would ever need. There would be compassion. There would be plenty of food and shelter and creativity. There would be peace and almost nobody would have any stress or any mental illness whatsoever. And when they would everybody would support them. Everyone would be happy because everyone would be free. We would use our feelings to guide us and not silly ideologies that we live by today. Everybody would live in harmony and we would never forget humanity's goal:

To go forward.

Laugh all you want but this is the truth. :yesnod:

Same as I was at one time.  I was paying $16 a month rent, with 6 other people, in Michigan winter in a farm house with no insulation.  The warmest we ever got that house was 53 degrees. Most of the winter the pipes were froze and we had to take our shits at school.

And now you're livin' the dream!

There needs to be like a stoner version of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' with stories like these.

I don't have a problem with 'working' towards your own goals - if they are actually 'your' goals and not some pre-planted lofty symbol - what I mean, is the kind of work where you're just considered one of the 'worker drones' in the big mechanical cog. We aren't little ants scurrying around like a bunch of headless chickens, obeying our glorious Queen mother. We should have the option of settling down in a quiet valley somewhere to pursue libertinage if we so desire.  :ducklol:

But unfortunately, a group of assholes, with help from their pretentious line of ancestors, have acquired the resources, technology, and legitimacy to preordain a list of hoops we have to jump through so that they can continue to feed on their truffles and power-trips.

Actually I've never really had any concrete goals.  Most everything I've tried to get behind has been so much pie in the sky.

I just ended up where I am. I got here but there was never any formal plan.  I was just trying to figure myself out and had no time for anything else.
