Holidays charity - are you doing/donating something these Holidays? To which causes? * 1
    #19315201 - 12/23/13 08:28 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Will you be working in the soup kitchen of your local homeless shelter this christmas?  Donating to a charity? What are you giving of your effort, time or means to those less well off?

If you weren't planning on doing it, can we persuade you to do something spontaneous? Heck, treat a homeless person to a meal or a couple grams of good weed!

It does not have to stop at christmas, lets make this whole holidays period one of GIVING.

Time to spread some Yuletide cheer :awebig:

Me I'm doing several things year round and these holidays, but just now I went to the site of one of the African orphanages I'm sponsoring, figured out a sum of money that would buy one of those kids something that would cheer them the heck up :yaysugar: , multiplied it by the number of kids they are housing at this time and donated it to the orphanage.

So, thats one thing I did, how about you?

I've already spent over $300 on charity raffles and I didn't win a house, or a car, gold bullion or even a lousy flight centre voucher.

I think that counts as a donation. :crankeyclaus:

We are buying gifts for a few local needy children.  There is a local business that has a tree with angel ornaments, each representing a local child in need, so we try to buy and convince our friends to do the same until they are all gone.  It's nice to buy them some warm clothes that will last them at least through the season until they outgrow it, and some cool toys.  I have more fun doing that than shopping for anyone else.

I donate a lot of my time and patience towards being there for people to talk to who have nobody else who will listen. Perhaps this is less tangible than going and feeding the hungry or something like that, but it is what I do. I don't do it through any organization or like that, just on a personal level with people that know and people that I meet. I like to think it makes a difference.

I'm not in the position to do so right now but when my kids get older I'm going to make sure they know how to be good people. I'm going to make it my family tradition for them to pick a charity that means something to them, and we will donate to them, and I will keep a record of everything they ever donated to so they never forget how to make our world a better place. Maybe I will make plaques.

I donated to Van's skating company it helps autistic kids learn how to function in a social setting and gain friends by teaching them how to skateboard and putting them in a skate park, which I think is a cool way for them to learn social settings.  Plus I skate and my girlfriends brother has autism so I donated to the perfect cause imo

I got a 75$ lego set I bought for myself last year. I couldn't resist the urge of playing will my favorite childhood toy anymore. Turned out to be not so fun after all. I grew out of it (or I didn't have enough block to create something) so now I'm gonna go to walmart and give it away. I also have a garbage bag filled will clothes I've been meaning to give away. I should do that today or else I'll probably forget about it until next year's christmas (odds are I'll still forget too)

Donated $100 to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  It felt good to do it, too!

I donate my time and skills. Over the holidays I do meals on wheels . (most Of the people in this area who deliver are older and go south for the winter) . Winters usually aren't to busy for me.

I also work in a homeless shelter from time to time cooking. Don't donate money now as I don't have enough to give away.

Yes. This year actually I'm gonna spend Christmas Day volunteering at Habitat for Humanity "ReStore."

It's basically a thrift shop that offers donated items just for your home, but on Christmas they also offer hot meals. I'm doing this not only because of the wonderful feeling of helping others that are less fortunate, but also because that was the place I did my 150 hours of required community service a couple years back.

They treated me so nicely there when it was court ordered, and I promised them I would come back soon to help out without an order from the justice system. I'm a bit upset it took me around 2 years to keep that promise to them, but I'm looking forward to doing it tomorrow.

I celebrate Christmas today as per the custom where I'm originally from, so for me tomorrow I'd just be sitting on my ass smoking all day probably. It shall be a much more emotionally gratifying day for me to get up off my ass and spend the day with people that actually need help.

:peace: and  guys. Remember that random acts of kindness go a very long way. Happy holidays!

I remember my friend, off his face, giving E tabs to homeless people. I bet they felt great the next day,,. It was hard enough dealing with it in the comfort of my home.
