Well when its the only pinning factor in a jar its primary and u go on vacation or some shit I'd rather have deep colonization than pinning and like I said not a huge deal mushrooms actually grow faster in darkness and bigger in the cold in all my experiance yeah light is good obviously but I save energy I'm not rich I mean I grow instead of buy so therefore I try to pinch pennies If u got the money go ahead but there is not one thing on my setup automated besides a light on a timer for pinning specifically

What are you talking about?
Cakes/substrates that pin before full colonization usually indicate contams.
Cakes/substrates that pin after full colonization are ready to be fruited in most cases.
This is true whether in a jar or not.
Light is not a pinning trigger until after full colonization and an increase in air is given, and even then it's a secondary pinning trigger.
My jars colonize on a shelf 4-5 feet away from 2 bright ass bulbs getting direct/intense light and I have never seen a single one of my grains jars pin invitro.......ever.

Mycellium does grow more during the dark cycle than the light cycle, but it also derives energy from the light, so you need a balance.... like say 12/12.
And fruiting at cooler temps tends to produce denser, meatier fruits, while fruiting at higher temps will often produce hollow, less dense stems.
Moisture content and genetics are the main determining factors in fruit size.

Well u are maken damn good points I've never had an invetro just have read to prevent. And what I mean about goin on vacation is shit happens idk the difference between a consolidation week in light or dark but if it works in the dark and light in a closed jar is a pinning factoring as far as I know. That is considering there will be no evaporation or drop in co2 i did not know that until fae light isnt a pinning factor. I'd rather be safe than sorry though if ubwere gonna do the set and forget deal. I could be wrong I'm fairly new to this but that's what I've read. But talking to someone about genetics asking about an incubator is a bit advanced. Im really just tryin to help save money on unnessacary Have u done a side by side in light and darkness. Not trying to be condescending I'm just curious ur experiance. All ears

light is the least of his worries right now, he has jars in a tub with water and a heater op i suggest you look into either a tub in tub or just dich the whole idea and chuck them on a shelf and heat the room up, don't mind them bickering about light it has nuthing to do with your situation lol

Me personally no, I have always colonized in light.....except for my very first grow, but I was unaware and didn't really keep track...
But people used to colonize strictly in darkness, not we colonize in ambient/indirect light....if for no other reason than so we do not have to go out of our way to keep them in complete darkness as the light can only help and not hurt.
