You just got 6 jars of rye, a syringe, and a lighter in your sab.
You wait 5 minutes for the air to settle a little bit.
You unscrew the pvc cleanout caps and stick your freshly washed hands in...
And then it hits!
That itch on your face

Gotta use your feet for the scratch then, without taking your arms out.

Just pull them out and scratch. If you using a syringe and SHIP then it don't really matter. Chances are your freshly washed hands got some nasties all over them when you removed the plugs. If you were concerned about contams on your hands you would use gloves and alcohol. Also lighting a bic in your SAB is going to cause all kinds of heat currents, pretty much defeats the purpose of still air.
I usually am an agar man myself so I am always taking my hands out to flame my tools, etc.

Also, people inoculate jars in their SAB? I've never found a need because I use SHIPs.

I wouldn't recommend using a lighter in a SAB. the last time my lighter got to close to the opening in my SAB it ignited the isopropyl fumes from inside and roasted every thing in the box including the hair on my arms.

I do it that way to put into my head sterile procedure.
And once agar hits, you can take your arms out and stick em back in without contam rates skyrocketing?

Do you mean because of the air currents that the heat will create? I had not thought of that... Up till now I've kept my hands, lighter etc in the SAB to flame scalpel. I don't go mad with the isopropyl except on my gloves whenever I remove from the box..
And OP - just rub yr face on the side of the box - sorted!

I like adding padding to the bottom of the PVC or the holes so you can rest your arms.
