Anyone have/want any exotic pets?
I don't have any yet, but I do really want a fennec fox, a wallaby, and a wolf/wolf hybrid. The most attainable is the wolf hybrid, but I have a German Shepherd and in about a yr when my buddy breeds his dogs I'll be getting a pit bull-bull mastiff mix and I don't know if the wolf/wolf hybrid would cohabitate with them.

I want a fucking owl. No one would fuck with me if I had an owl. You would have to warship me, because I would be a god. My beautiful Snowy owl would rain LSD from the sky for the masses.
It would be beautiful.

Snowy owls are one of the most beautiful animals on the planet. That would be awesome, but not legal I don't think. All the animals I listed are legal to own as pets.
Illegally, my dream pet would be a penguin.

You have to own an aviary just to own an owl.

No they aren't, but they run around $1k. There's a wolf and wolf hybrid breeder a couple hrs south of me. Idk exactly what he charges, but I know its less than a G.

That's awesome, but I don't live in Japan, nor do I intend to lol. A friend of my grandmother's stole a penguin from South America once and kept it, but he got caught and had to send it back somehow.

Ive been looking at african grey parrots they are very intellectual and can learn to talk, but I haven't bought one yet cause I work alot and read they need alot of attention to keep them happy. I thought about playing sounds from jungle on my surround sound while at work but Im still reading about them.

I know this isn't that exotic but I used to have a hedgehog. It was honestly a pretty shitty pet. she was nice for like the first 2 months, then she randomly had some babies. i guess she was pregnant when we bought her. but get this, she ATE HER BABIES. i shit you not. I don't know why she did it but she did it. after that happened, she hated being handled and would just turn into a spikey ball if you tried to pick her up. rats are much better rodent pets.
the best pets are the most commonly owned pets in my experience. labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, etc. I love my lab and she loves me. or at least she acts like she loves me, and that's what's important to me. also she was easy as fuck to train. she basically house trained herself. i dont think she has ever shit in the house, literally, ever, and i could probably count the number of times she has peed in the house on one hand. only ever happens in moments of extreme excitement

I think a sugar glider would be a pretty cool little pet. I don't know about in the States but you need a license to have one here.

My buddy has an African gray. It's pretty low maintenance. They're awesome! His knows every Nextel ringtone and if you leave the room before he's done chillin with you he'll "ring" to trick you into coming back to answer the phone.
Lots of animals eat their first litter, including cats and dogs oftentimes.
I love my German Shepherd and she appears to love me too. Dogs are definitely my favorite pet, but I don't want the exotic ones for ease of ownership, I want them cuz they're awesome. I mean, who wouldn't want a fuckin mini kangaroo?

Sugar gliders are cool, and they're legal here, but I don't think they'd be good to have if you have larger pets too.

I believe it. I used to feed my hedgehog raw beef meatballs. He ate cow meat. Even my cats won't eat beef.

All rodents and kin will eat there young. Alot of animals do.
My lab... not to bright. Definitely obedient but not very smart and she is mixed with border collie. She is still young tho 2yrs some mo. She has calmed down ALOT just in the last few months. Which is great and has really helped with training.
Also I didn't get her till she was over a yr (she was a rescue). She was also abused growing up so that doesn't help either. But she is very VERY affectionate sometimes almost to much lol. /thread jack
Fennec fox and the flying squirrels would be awesome and I'm a HUGE fan of reptiles. I think I would want some scorpions too but idk lol. Stuff like that is always intriguing. With the fox and squirrel I think my dog would eat them she loves to chase things even a leaf moving she jumps on lol.

I'd be worried about my dog with the fox too, but she hasn't eaten the cats yet.

Oh yea both male and female when hit adolescent have serious tempers and are so incredibly strong. It blows my mind at the strength they possess.
Yea my dog hasn't killed the cats yet either and the animal shelter said not bec she would eat them. I had baby ducks for a couple weeks and she didn't eat them.
Lol sorry. Reminiscing 1 time I took my dog to the park she ran and grabbed a baby goose. I told her to drop it. When she looked up at me and that goose was hanging from her mouth I was like aww... wait... fuck it. Drop it. She did and by the time I got there it was gone so she didn't kill that either.

I'm not sure if you classify mine as exotic, I do, but I have a pure bred Bengal cat.
They get them from breeding a domestic house cat with an asian leopard cat. Mine has glittered leopard print fur, and has obvious wild personality traits. The way he stalks a string or something when I play with him is amazing. Just like a leopard. He gets really low and creeps forward. He has huge back legs almost like a rabbit, and massive paws. His whole structure looks nothing at all like a normal cat. Basically a baby leopard. He's only 4-5 months old and already as big as any cat i've ever had.

I have a 3 year old Bengal, huge cat hes an outside cat and i live in a semi rural area and he kills everything. He trys to catch fish out of my pond and hes good friends with my dogs a AKC golden retriever and a shi tzu. He fights/plays with them and goes "paw to paw" with them. He really kicks the shi tzus ass. Hes a fun cat, has a weird meow different than the other neighborhood cats. I really want a Serval or a Savannah cat.

My friends bengals had kittens so i got mine for nothing. But they are smart cats and they need about the same space as any other house cat. Mine has a territory outside, usually sticks to the front/backyard and this field behind the house across the street. The have goatd and horses over there but he hops the fence. When i walk my dog he walks next to the dog and they both smell stuff and investigate together. They are big cats but they are around the size of house cats, weighing 14-20lbs. Mines closer to 20. Ill see if i can find a pic of him.

I love reptiles. My wife has Panther Chameleons, I have a few hypo het for albino Boa Constrictors. Which I have plans on adding to my collection immensely. What I would really love to have though is a Gaboon Viper. They are highly venomous for those of you who aren't familiar. They have such a beautiful pattern to them. Just a truly awesome snake.

My bengal cost almost $1000, but that was without the papers showing he's purebred, which we really should have gotten if we wanted to breed him.
They really are intelligent though, nothing like regular house cats. You can tell by the way they act. And totally fearless. I'll walk by mine when he's in a playful mood and he goes up on his hind legs stand up and just stars pawing the air like crazy like he wants to fight it's hilarious.
And the sounds he makes are totally feral. Like growls sometimes.
I'm starting to train him to jump up on my shoulders, and now I'll be walking by and not even notice him while he's perched on something and he'll just fly through the air and land on my back . it's awesome.
I love him.
I'll upload a few pictures in a while when I get some on the computer.

Awesome I want one (a Bengal)! I would love to have a chameleon they are so awesome. As for you getting a baboon viper not likely. But I knew a guy with a cobra (don't remember exactly what one). Such a gorgeous snake and my grandfather had a Burmese that was like 8 1/2ft he used to feed it rabbits and it took baths in my kiddie swimming pools. Another beautiful snake I've always wanted.

He/she is a gorgeous feline. So adorable. But so are tigers till they get big and rip your throat out. I'm not saying he would just saying for some of the larger exotic pets.

Apparently it takes 2-3 years for him to fully grow into himself. He's already huge and he's only a couple of month's old. It makes me wonder how big he's going to get. haha.
My parents are talking about getting him declawed and I'm fighting with them to change their minds.

Yeah, we lost one of our cats a few months ago. She had to be put down because she was so sick. It was the hardest thing to see her go.
After that we waited a while and then decided to get the bengal we have now. It was a total surprise for me, they said they were getting me another cat, but I didn't know it would be a bengal. haha
I really don't want him to be declawed. He's getting better, he's learning to not scratch when playing, but he still destroys furniture when he jumps up on them. That's why they want him declawed.

My favorites always had to be put down. Its always the hardest thing to do. My 2 favorite pets my cat and iguana died within weeks of each other I was like 11yrs old, real shitty.

Are you talking about the Australian species or something different? I'm from Australia, and i didn't know there was sugar gliders native to other countries. If there isn't i didn't think it would be legal to own them. (unless you're referring to the flying squirrel which is very similar.).
EDIT: By the way, i've always been quite fond of red foxes, despite their poor reputation in my country, and I would love to own a sibfox. For those that don't know, sibfox is an company that has been breeding foxes for over 50 years for a number of reasons, one reason was for a scientific experiment in relation to domestication, which is particularly interesting to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domesticated_silver_fox

It's wild seeing him climb up the cat towers we have for him. He can literally climb up an 8 foot cat tower thing like a human does rock climbing.
That's why I don't want him to be declawed. He won't be able to utilize his wild personality. haha

I would LOVE an octopus or a cuddlsfish, or just any cephalopod.
Owls would be awesome too, I spend quite a bit of time volunteering at the raptor center. So I get to spend a lot of time handling owls and other raptors. Fucking beautiful creatures.

Bengal cats only get between 14-20lbs. Slightly bigger than a house cat, smaller than a bobcat. Dont think its ripping anyones throat out. My bengal is a killing machine! Mice, birds, snakes, squirrles, rabbits and the frogs from my pond. Mine destroyed my furniture and the carpet in my sons doorway.. pissed my gf off so bad he became indoor/outdoor. He loves it outside climbing trees and doing all that killing.

I want to make a fenced in place for him outside so he can be out in the open.
He obviously wants to go outside but I'm just scared of him running away. I don't know what I would do.

I used to worry at first but then i noticed hes either in the yard or across the street in the horse field. I didnt pay money for him but if i did it would be an enclosure. ive seen some cool pens on youtube, with small goldfish ponds and small trees or wood to climb. I want to build platforms near the ceiling for him to hang out on.

Agreed a huge fish tank filled with them and some other deep ocean species.
WHAT!!! You lucky bastard I wish we had something like that here or even a reptile house or something!

Agreed. I think he would be depressed without his claws.

Lol I didn't really mean that seriously. About the ripping out someone's throat. Maybe a mouse or bird lol. lol that's awesome at least you don't gotta worry about pests in your yard.

I agree I wouldn't be able to let something like that outside if I paid that much for him. Especially since I've had a cat of mine eaten by coyotes.

Lol yeah he chewed up a squirrels face... found it in the yard. No i only see dead animals lol! There's coyotes up here, ive only seen one in 4 years but its still a concern. funny thing is there used to be like 5 cats on the street and now its just him and 2 others that live across the street. I think he ran them off id hear loud fighting lol. its like a nature show outside. My cat attacked a bird and had it then other birdd started dive bombing my cat and he let it go and ran off. Ive never seen anything like it.

Yeah but it's in his nature to want to be outside. Like I can tell he would love being able to run around the long grass and stuff like he would in the wild.
I'm really going to try to make something for him so he can go outside but not get away. It's not even about loosing the money, I just don't want him to get hurt. He's crazy affectionate. It's like he understands you almost. Very smart.

Check out some YouTube vids of other peoples enclosures to get ideas. Some have enclosed walkways from inside to outside. Mine follows my car home when i turn onto my street to be the first to greet me.

Yeah my next investment is either a reticulated python or an albino burmese. I usually don't care for albinos but I think it looks good on the burmese. I was going to breed my hypo het for albino boas this year and sell the babies to invest in them I decided to let my female bulk up a bit more before I breed her. They are pretty big now but they definitely have room to grow. They are eating extra large rats or small rabbits now. I love reptiles. There is just something about them. We have a couple cats too. My wife and I would both love to have a serval. A few years back I was serving time and was on the road crew. We got to work the county fair and one of the booths their brought all kinds of different exotic animals. They had a serval they let me play with. What an amazing cat. So powerful.

Bearded dragons are awesome! My wife really wants one. We were looking at some baby bearded dragons at pet land yesterday but they wanted like 120 bucks! That is insane! I don't know how they can get away with that when you can get them online for around 45.

I would like one colorful like this one above.

Up until a year ago I kept a reef tank and my favorite thing was my mantis shrimp. Named him Googly because of his awesome googly eyes. They are pretty damn intelligent, have cool behaviors and insane weaponry when it comes to smashing things.
Had to break down my tank when I moved, when I start putting together another one I will for sure be getting another mantis.

Post pics when you do. And post them here to add some more flare to my thread.
Mantis shrimps are pretty spiffy.

I'll be adopting this one from a family member and its pretty much full grown. No idea what it looks like or anything but it'll be interesting to handle it.
