PF Tek with spent coffee grounds

Hey all! I am a complete amateur! I just started cultivating. I used vermiculite and brown rice flour like everything on Youtube shows with some spore syringes, however, after a couple days I saw no progress. I had a spore print, but figured there's no way these will catch, so I scraped the print into the syringe from the other day (I tried not to touch the syringe-needle) with some sterilized water and let it sit for about 36 hours. Then I mixed vermiculite, my spent coffee grounds (figuring what the heck, it won't work anyway) and the brf. After sterilizing and inoculating I've got what looks like a very nice cake in the works. Is this legit? Do the nutritive properties of the grounds make the substrate better? Should I not have done this?
Anyway, so I went back into the other batch with a sterilized fork to see what was the matter. There was a little mycelium forming at the top under the foil, but that was it. I figured I packed in my substrate too tightly. I then sterilized another mason jar and split up the substrate. I started with 2 jars and now I have 3 that are all 2/3s full. Is there any possibility of them taking? Or are these cakes that never were lost?
One final issue. My mason jars are not flush with the mouth. Again, I'd never done this before. There are shoulders to my jars. If I do get a good cake, how will I get it out of the jar? Will breaking it up in the jar destroy the cake?
Thanks for the feedback!

Spores can take 2+ weeks to germinate and show growth...your patience needs more patience.
Not sure what to think about the coffee cake.....lol.....I think not good.
As for your jars, you would either have to break the jar to birth it, or break up the cake and spawn it to a bulk substrate.

Hey, thanks for that!
So I don't think I was impatient. I just saw the mycelium coming in well on the one with the grounds in it and figured it was well ahead of the ones I made 2 or 3 days prior to the coffee grounds one. I figured something was amiss! Plus it had been about 10-12 days, I figured I should see something growing.
Bulk substrate? Not like a casing? Will breaking up the cake to get it out of the jar really kill the mycelium? If I slid two spoons down the sides and squeezed it to pull it out destroy my project too?
Again, thanks for the quick feedback.

Well when you say a couple days it is impatience, 10 days is a bit more than a couple......

Yes a bulk substrate, no not a casing....I mean you could just break them up and case them, but that is soo much wasted potential.

I would not tell you to do something that would kill your mycellium.

It would destroy the cake, but the mycellium would be fine....the cake would just be broken up.
You could fruit that pile of cake in a fruiting chamber, cased or not, or spawn it to a bulk substrate material.
I suggest the latter.

are you sure the coffee grounds arent growing white mold and not myc? i kept a bag of spent coffee grounds on my porch for a couple weeks once and it started getting moldy almost immediately.

I am not sure! Not sure at all!! I did sterilize it in the pressure cooker (regular PF-Tek), so if I was clean about everything it should be inoculated properly. If it grows mold that well, I'd imagine it would grow some spores pretty readily.
Like I said, I just did it because I had some grounds laying around. I also didn't think scraping a spore print into a syringe would produce any usable spores (first time doing any of this stuff).
Anyway, about my other two (now three) jars. So is there a chance that I didn't ruin them? I mean, I really didn't look anything up, I figured they were DOA and just tried it. When I pried the foil off, I saw the white stuff. I do recall smelling it, though it wasn't anything pungent (I don't even remember the smell and I did this yesterday). So I figure, it was just packed too tightly and the mycelium had no where to go. Now that I've roomed them and put them back in a warm dark place... could there be any hope for them?
