Don't you think it's more likely to be the placebo effect than our brains having different numbers of receptors tho?

We are talking about mushrooms, not acid.

I know. But you can't give anyone a megadose of mushrooms without them knowing they are getting a megadose. That's why it only works with LSD. Don't you think mushrooms are similar enough to LSD to draw parallels?

The only thing that I can say is that when I take 50 fresh grams I experience a huge perceptual shift and vivid hallucinations.

When I take around 100 fresh grams everything melts and I experience what I consider ego death.

Maybe it just takes more to get me to that point. I don't really know why that would be. I can just speculate like you do.

i hate the heroic dose statment mckenna made, one of his only mistakes in my opinion..

never once have i came across the statment with a shred of knowledge to it that mushrooms get some people ALOT higher then others, and obviously.. well in my experience :wink: if i ate 5 grams of mushrooms i wouldent be able to comprehend reality.. i can hardly eat a 8th without TRIPPING BALLS.. half a gram even gets me off pretty good .

u can go by leary's phylosphy.."when in dought doubble dose" but im pretty sure leary never ate many mushrooms hehe :smile: lsd is childsplay compared to shrooms..(tho i like lsd 100x better)

i dunno :P be fucked up if somone ended up fucking his head up cause he took mckenna's tolerence to mushrooms instead of his own :wink:

i mean mckenna couldent even get high off animitas , and only experience casual hallucinations from datura. the way he describes the psychdelic reality (in my point of view) says he had to try really hard to get to the goods :wink:

mckenna was great tho, terrible tragedy what happen to his head :P

I'm a bit of a late comer to this thread but i've thought about it a lot over the years.
Growin' up in Ireland we never really had the education on drugs that we have now what with this new fangled Internet, an'all. So a normal dose for me and my friends of U.K Pysoblo, well you know the mushroom i'm tryin' to spell, Liberty cap, thats the one, would have started at 100 mushrooms. Dont know how much that would have been in weight as thats not the way we counted. These of course ranged in size from small to the Godzilla like ones that always seemed to grow on their own with no patches round. Anyway, i digress.
My method of dryin' was crude but effective. I'd leave hundreds of them on paper till they dried then eat them.
All through mushroom season you'd have a sack of them dried and ready to consume. Not only have i digressed i think i've taken a wrong turnin' here.
We're talkin' heroic dosage, yes? Yes, ok. I had, in one sittin', over 650 Liberty Caps. I started with a good 150 or so then happily munched my way through the rest of the plastic sack till there was just dust at the bottom.
Yes i was high, fcuk was i high. But i truely do believe you can only get so high. Theres only so much brain space in there.
Mostly i believe it comes down to how hard you come up.
This is the reason now when i trip nothin' ever seems to be intense enough for me. I'm spoilt. Now i'm convinced that every trip has to be total madness or its just not truely Phycedelic.
The walls bendin' a bit from the corner of my eye? Pah!
A bit of carpet swirl? Pah!
Thinkin' your friends are speakin' fluent Swedish? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But then its the singer not the song.
Each to his own.
Different strokes.
Whats good for one.
One mans drink is anothers poison.
What do i know?
Its all academic once your peakin' and you've lost sense of all reality whether you've had 1 or a hundred.

I wish I had a low tolerance...5g's is my normal dose. I wont even eat an 8th. Feels wasteful to me. And no I am not a giant. Under 200# and under 6'.

no matter hwo many mushrooms i give them.. dont even feel a buzz.. and then theirs people who jsut do not see visuals onpsychdelics..

i dunno if i can say im lucky, maybe on the solo front. but i always fuck up hehe.. get drunk and decide to down some mushrooms and i eat the same dose as everyone else..

ever have a prayin mantis on ur ceiling staring a poking u before?
not plesant.
this was off 3.2 grams.

I've taken 8ths and had a great time.

Then I moved up. Double the 3.5 = 7g.
Well, why not? :smile:

I ate them alone after being yelled at by the mom and I was feeling like shit. It was to test how set and setting mess with your trip. Well, in a bad mood, on 7g, in pitch black, total silence, I discovered the secret to happiness. I thought about my drug use and why I was unhappy. I thought about how my life is compared to other peoples. I thought of the kids in Iraq who would do anything for a meal or to have their parents back, and of all the people of the world.

And I found it. I found happiness. Complete, utter, bliss. I knocked on my mom's bedroom door at 2AM in the morning crying tears of happiness apoligizing for all I've put her through, told her I love her, and she said 'It's ok, just go back to bed'.

Well, right when I had the key to happiness, I decided sleep would be awesome, so I slept. My mom woke me up and I told her I saw things i've never seen before on mushrooms. I told her I ate 7 gram of psilocybe cubensis, a gift the earth has given us, and I found the answer to everything. I entered the trip asking myself "why can't I be happy" and I found out I can be.

Well, she threatened to throw me out of the house for putting poisonous drugs into my body and she told me if I don't like reality the way it is I'm out of the house. What a bummer! Ignorant people. It's funny because she smokes the ganja with me but if I ever take anything else she flips out. I was under the influence that she was accepting of drug use. wrong.

Total, pure guess work on my part. Well mostly. When you buy from a shop it says on the side of the box how much you have in weight. At the moment i've got 70 'shrooms that were picked today from my grow kit, first flush*hurray for me*, dryin' at a barley warm heat in the oven. I've no idea what the actual weight will be dry but what kind of an idiot cant guess the weight of 1 gram? Piece of hash in this hand, some 'shrooms in the other. Its close enough for Rock'n'Roll.

EDIT: I suppose first off you gotta' be able to know what 1 gram of hash feels like. But who cant tell that? Its a gram! Simple.

Congrats on the 70 shrooms.Let me know how much they weigh. To the gram! :tongue:

BTW, using your hands as a scale is not very accurate.Especially when you are dealing with higher amounts.

Yeah, but we're talkin' a guesstimate here. One micro gram over either ways not gonna' make that much difference. Unless your dealin' with, i dont know, fairy dust or magic beans.

Dont know about weighin' the wee fcukers. Tell you what i'm goin' to do, i'm gonna' sit and much them when they're dry and have the strongest, hopefuly, trip i've had for a long time.
I'll tell you how that goes though.
