Awesome!  even the weather was perfect.

Great write-up on philly.com recently too, and my partner has the Arthur article which I'm looking forward to checking out.

Thanks for the leads on boxes too

That was a great spot highlighting your business! It's great to see small family farms succeeding in the land of corporate farming. I hope your family continues to have success in this venture.

Glad to see you getting the publicity.  I hope you have/can get an archival copy.  It may come in handy later!

How much are you producing on a weekly basis?

Anywhere from 100-200lbs per week depending on the season.

Thanks for the reply woodland, and if your here I wouldn't mind chatting some more   Are your fc's in your house now, or somewhere else?  How are you going to go about building your new larger grow rooms, with respect to insulation, HVAC systems, and humidifiers?  I would like to add a 20x40' FC this year, but it would have to be outside, as I have no barn to put it in.  The main things I need to research is what is the best type of sturcture (metal building, greenhouse frame, etc) what kind and how much insulation, and HVAC (heating in winter, cooling in summer).  If you can or would like to shed any light on how you will aproach building your future fc's in regard to these aspects that would be most appreciated. Also Do you have a walk-in-cooler? And what type of delivery vehicle do you use?  Thanks again, your successes are inspiring :dancer:

If I was building something free standing, I would model it after Stamet's grow rooms. Have you ever seen them? It's basically a modified gothic-type arched structure that is sheathed with metal roofing/siding. Between the inner and outer layers is filled with spray foam insulation. You can see them here.

FCs, are in the basement right now. Currently working on retrofitting our old barn. We're going with radiant floor heating and wall-mount AC units. Right now we have a double door commercial fridge for mushroom storage, but we'll be building a walk-in with a Cool-Bot in the barn.
As for delivery, I build a basic box out of 1" insulation board that sits in the bed of a pick up truck. From the box, a shop-vac hose runs to the dashboard vents in the cab, so I can run the AC back to the box. It keeps the mush nice and cool. During the hottest times of the summer, I'll throw a cooler full of ice into the box as well.

cheers.

Thanks for the reply; I will look into "Stamets style" grow houses. Ingenious about delivery; I had a simialir idea with insulation box but cooling with ac; that's worth a try:cool:  I have a 8x8' walk-in cooler built using the coolbot.  It works quite well, especially since it saved me $1000's compared to a prebuilt unit.  I will say the cool-bot can be a little finicky at times though; but so far it has proven reliable enough (I've run it for over a year now.). Great work again, and I hope your and your family prosper :dancer:

I've also heard that the CoolBot can be finicky, but as you said, it's much more affordable compared to the price of the commercial walk-ins.

On pages 484 in GGMM, there are a few pics of his grow rooms going up. On 485 is a pic of a smaller version. It's really a great design, which I hope to copy someday once we outgrow the barn.

Thanks, Aleon! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

cheers.

Looks pretty legit Bro!  I'm liking the vid.

Especially the part about addressing spawn as seedlings not as seed. And spores as seed.

I picked up my commercial chiller for less that $100 + my time to dismantle and re assemble + $50 for the AC man to de/re commission (tip  -back the gas up into the compressor then flatten the copper pipes to seal before cutting them)

Ask for Type N high-calcium hydrated lime. Feed stores usually have it for disinfecting stalls and for lining baseball fields. It has to say "high-calcium" as there is a couple types of type N.
Here is the MSDS for mine.
