Suit up?
    #19292285 - 12/18/13 08:25 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

What do you think when you see someone in a suit?

I recently have become very interested in being a regular suit wearer, something tailored to fit me .

But is it worth it?

Suits being well over a thousand dollars after tailoring

I would hate to spill something on it , on the other hand I think I look fly in them which really is all I care about.

Edit : I posted this hear cause Its been a new feeling to be mature and classy and this has been a key point on whether I try to move forward into the next "stage of life" or now

Suits make you feel like you have power and therefor you project power. I was a grungy skate kid back in the day, while I still have my day to day style, I've got a closet full of nice shirts and a few suits.
I don't understand what anyone has against looking good

You can get suits cleaned.

Also you can find decent stuff on sale for, say, $500. Tailoring needn't cost you more than $100. Sure, it won't be bespoke, but so what.

Find out what you like (esp. brands, models), find out who carries it (online & bricks 'n' mortar, check frequently for sales.

Be aware of different "lines" w/in a brand.

For ex., Ralph Lauren makes plenty of herp-de-derp dad fashion. They also have their Purple Label, which is pretty durned nice.

I feel I need my suits tailored
One because I like how they hang and that compliments my body type.
Two Im 5-6 and 115 lbs so to get properly fitting clothes I need to.
Three if I am going to get my clothes tailored might as well have them be nice clothes.

I have some nice button ups but they are from like high school and are colorful and such so I dont wear them anymore except inside the house.

So far I have found Express has a suit department with clothes close to my size , Guess has a pretty decent jacket selection , and Nordstrom just has nice suits unfortunately all of it would need to be tailored.

How often do you wear your suits?

I would love to be able to wear one everyday.

Hell no, I hate them. Wouldn't wear one to a funeral. What do I think of people wearing them? Same thing I think when I see people in Porches. Not much. But we probably wouldn't get on.

I used to wear a suit on a regular basis for a job I used to have. I always kinda feel like a badass when I a wear suit. Especially when I was wearing a suit and tie that I really liked. My two best suits I got at Banana Republic during an annual sale they do, pretty much everything is 50% off. I bought two suits that day for around $300 total. I don't wear a suit regularly anymore, but I have two decent suits if I ever need to dress formally

Same. Although I do appreciate clothing made of fine fibers, and thats well fitted. (my girlfriend is a tailor.)

I don't see the purpose of suits, other than business/social formalities which I find to be pointless. I can understand why men wear them, to climb the social/business ladder, projecting power at work and to women. I also agree that a well tailored suit on someone who is well groomed can be a good look.

Not for me though. I always feel sorry for the business men in smooth bottomed shoes, and suits in the middle of winter, or the torrential downpours. They are impractical outside of courtship, business.

Personally, I want to be prepared to walk out of, climb over, stay warm, change a tire/crawl under the car/whatever at-all-times.

Practicality trumps style, imo.

If that's what your into, we probably wouldn't get along, fundamental difference in life philosophy. (although, who knows, right - it is fair to say that i don't keep company with people who wear suits!)

Drycleaning seems likes a major hassle and expense anyways + it's terrible for the environment.

I hope sometime soon society will realize that clothing should be chosen to match things like weather conditions and the activity of the person wearing them. It is beyond retarded to hope people will do things like bike to work if they have to wear clothing that is totally inappropriate for someone who is going to work up a bit of sweat.

What the hell is the function of a tie? It doesn't have one. So why the fuck do we have to wear ties? To achieve some arbitrary standard. Honestly, suits and ties are one of the most absurd traditions I can think of.

Btw, you may not have noticed, but I just made a compelling argument that suits and ties are responsible for global warming.

Ties look good , you may only like functional clothes but thats not all of us.

Any what if I said suits give me confidence  or make me feel slick , thats a function.

It's only a function because society has given it that function. It doesn't have a practical application. We'd be better off if we though that a good t-shirt design is what people were looking for Iin Their employees.

No its doing that because I like how I look in it. Fuck society If you looked at me you could tell I have chosen the life I want over society

This isnt what this thread is about , all I asked is if you would wear it and what you think of when you see people in them , honestly mate I dont care about your views of clothing in society not to be a dick but this isnt a philosophy class this is me trying to see what women think when they see a man in a nice suit

You are saying that you would wear a tie, which has absolutely no function besides aesthetics, even the arbitrary rules say that a tie is required to be respected did not exist.

Try to imagine growing up in a culture where the tie didn't exist. Would you not just be baffled at the idea that someone should strap a strip of cloth to their neck?

It´s that dickhead French boy extravaganza king Louis XIV that introduced it. We have him to blame for all the palaces in Paris and our ties.

That's great news. Americans hate anything that smells French.

I didn't say you were.

Are you mad because I think wearing a big arrow pointing at your dick is kinda silly?
