How to pasteurize manure/straw without a thermometer or ovenbag?
    #19310159 - 12/22/13 01:02 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I don't have access to a meat thermometer, it's out of the question.

Can I place it in jars, and place those jars in a pot and heat the water for X hours?

thats a scary ass way to go about it, better off with coir it's more forgiving:cool:
i wouldn't put all that work into my grain jars just to risk the pasturizing without a 3 dollar thermometer

You don't need a meat thermometer even a candy thermometer works. I dunno what you have in your country but check a groceryy store if you have a grocery store.

:whathesaid:

I would even skip the bulk altogether if I couldn't find either a thermometer or coir, just not worth the risk. Just case the grains and avoid having a mold farm. If you can find a thermometer and do the poo/straw be quite watchful and if the temp gets to high start over. Poo and straw are very picky IME, but they do give nice results. Coir is great, pretty much impossible to fuck up.
