Prednisone Depression

So, I've had bronchitis for about 7 months since I was too ignorant to stop smoking pot when I was on my first dose of antibiotics 6 months ago. I got augmentin about a month ago, and fuck that - I couldn't fart or else I'd shit myself. So I stopped after about a day.
My doc prescribed another z-pack and prednisone to help the z-pack and I'm assuming to see if it's asthma/allergy related. Anyways, PREDNISONE SUCKS
I'm on a dosage of 24 mg that tapers off 4 mg per day, but I have never had suicidal ideation quite this bad. I feel depressed like there's no hope. I can't wait to get off this stuff. 5 more days.
Anyone else got any stories? This is a fairly low dose, too.

Prenisone doesn't suck... It's very useful and has its purposes. I've taken it for months at a time with no large side effects. It has its negative consequences but when you can barely breath, you better take what you can get.

Well, it obviously has benefits. Otherwise I wouldn't be on it... I have a friend who is actually using it for breathing problems.
I'm just saying that this depression I'm getting from it is unreal - I've never felt this down on life.

I've never had that problem. Have you talked to your Doctor? I'm sure you have but are there any other alternatives you could use? I've always use it because it works really well for me. I know it can cause deterioration of the hips and shit though..
I hope you feel better anyway.

Wow, I got prescribed the same exact shit for a tonsil infection last month, I read up on the prednisone as I'd never heard about it, and I usually read up on shit before I take it anyway. I ended up not taking it and just throwing it out. Steroids do weird shit to your body that's for sure.

@PedoPolice
I have not, and I think I'm just going to ride it out. Convincing myself it'll be over in 4 days helps.
Yeah, I've heard of muscle atrophy and what not from it, but like you said, it's got to be better than not breathing..
Thank you for the kind words.
@FrozenHappiness
That would make sense. This is the first time it's caused depression. I've been on it twice before for poison oak.
@schwarg
Smart man, definitely best to avoid it when you can and I think I could have probably done so myself, but oh well. I guess it always comes down to a risk:benefit ratio. For me, chronic bronchitis is too much of a nuisance to let it go on.

I luckily have not had any breathing problems since the first dose of antibiotics, just a lot of discolored phlegm.
How much does the prednisone help you?

A lot, like a lot a lot. I have only ever needed it after taking opiates for a few days or weeks. After a few days of heavy use I can hardly breath and I have to use a breathing machine to be able to breath until I can get to the hospital. Then I have to take prenisone for a week or so until it goes away. Then rinse and repeat. Of course I don't have that problem now that I'm not doing anything I shouldn't be.
But yeah its helped me out immensely in the past.

My dude is about to (maybe) be put on prednisone. I showed him this thread.
The doctors said it shouldn't bother him or hurt him too much.

Most people don't have to take it long enough for that to happen.

Glad you got it figured out pedopolice.
Vivalamushie, it does kind of suck, but it has been essential for the severe cases of poison oak I've had. Like I said, this is the first time it's happened to me. Hopefully your friend doesn't experience any problems.

I used to get prednisone when I was a kid for asthma attacks and it gave me really weird side effects like mood swings. I know get it for when my back goes out, but don't have any of the side effects. My dad actually had a chest cold/ every other sickness that it moved too (lungs, throat, sinus, etc) and he was on it so long he now has steroid induced diabetes. It is a powerful drug, but does work really well for it's intended purpose, which it does have a lot of purposes and it can cause a lot of side effects.
