Not to say a swordsman CAN'T win a fight against an Axemen or Warhammerman,
how ever, if I was struck in the head or body with a weapon, the edge of the sword is probably not going to break my plate mail or helmet,
but you can be damn sure that warhammer or axe will get through.

Warhammers and Axes are like medieval can openers.

I also say they are ceremonial is because who the hell wants to be knighted by a warhammer? I also think because they are symmetrical and phallic shaped may have something to do with there reverence.

You're really putting some thought into this.

The Moro Kris.

The Spanish conquistadors invaded the Philippines in the early 1500's.
They conquered the Visayan(northern) islands in a period of roughly seven years.
Then Magellan set forth to conquer the southern Phillippines including the Moro islands. He was killed on the first island he landed on. This began a 377 year resistance of the Moros vs the Spanish. In 1899 The Spanish sold the Philippines to America. This enraged the Moro's, as their lands had never been conquered. The Moros conducted an 18 year armed resistance against the American military. Finally by 1917 most of the resisting Moros were chased into their mud and bamboo forts in the mountains, and blasted to pieces with artillery. There are records as late as 1936 of the American military using bombers to destroy Moro bandits in their mountain "cottas".

In my opinion the Moros were some of the greatest fighting men of all time.

Back in the day people actually used war hammers and axes 100X more than swords. Swords were more a sign of high status and just worn like jewelry. Only the most battle proficient warriors were given swords to use in battle because they were expensive to make, hard to wield correctly and took more training than any other weapon and ultimately in inexperienced hands they really weren't worth a shit. I'd carry a nuclear bomb.

Swords are like a completely garbage weapon,

If you aren't using an Axe or a Warhammer after you've used up all your arrows, you are a dead man.

Truth is, swords are garbage against any serious armor and only the piercing power of an axe or warhammer is worth your time against a guy with armor.

Swords are mostly ceremonial, imo.

Horseshit.
What percentage of soldiers do you think fought in full plate mail?
You realize that in many countries, you can't wear full plate because you will asphyxiate?
historically Killing a knight in full plate usually meant forcing them to the ground, and finding a gap in the armor you could stab your dagger through.
Fighting in full harness is more like wrestling than a weapon style.

Swords damage easier as well. One parry and you've got yourself a trip to the blacksmith. With a warhammer all you really need to worry about immediately is the condition of the shaft.

Sure, people used them for weapons
but they are not that great a weapon when compared to other handheld options.

Everywhere else but Feudal Europe. At that there are a lot of stories here (& Guldensporenslag) how knights would just sink in the mud.. Not exactly useful being heavily loaded with a battle axe and steel.

I'm not wearing heavy duty armour in the desert, the moist jungle or in the ice cold!

Swords are brittle though, that is annoying and i'd prefer an axe too :tongue2:

On second thought not 'a' saraccen sword but preferably a Byzantine or one from the Moors :yesnod:

If you want to argue quality, I would be surprised to hear if many have not at least heard of Damascus steel.
