PC different things at one time
    #19309621 - 12/21/13 09:33 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I have a question about PC more than one thing at once, I want to make up some culture slants and also want to PC some of my equipment, is this a bad idea or should it work fine, I hope yo guys aren't saying mother fucker this guy AGAIN! If so I am sorry as I tried the search engine and can't find anything on this subject, now I figure someone is gonna put a link up from the search engine, but honestly I tried!

Actually I was just wondering this today too. I wanted to make some no-pour agar dishes and grain jars at the same time but it agar dishes only need 30 minutes vs the grain jars taking a while.

I would just stick to PC'ing things that have a similar time and pressure requirement. Otherwise you leave room for error and possibly irreparable damage.

how bad could it be?  let's say, cook some tools, some grain cakes and some agar jars all at once.  as long as the longest time requirement of the bunch is met, how could the mix n match throw anything off?

I am pressure cooking 2 cups of agar and 5 BRF cakes in my pressure sterilizer at the same time right now for the next 90 minutes.

I did not even think of the 2 diff. Cook times (to answer your question as to what tools it is syringes) but even at that 2 cups of agar at 90 minutes is a long time for agar, as stamets says 45 in gg&mm then in the mushroom cultivator he says 30 minutes at 15psi. I had a guy say he does it for 20 minutes, and everything turns out fine.  So I just did one at 15psi for 30 minutes, with 1000 ml of water and it turned out good! Let me know how the agar does! As to the main reason I wrote this post it just seems such a waste of time and money to do 2 PC instead of 1 and i also wanted to know if you had diff. things with the same cook time and all diff. kinds of things( as in grains, agar, equipment, IF they all had the same cook times) would they cont. each other)but then again I wonder how much it cost to run your gas stove for 2 hours?

It's fine to pc your tools with the medium but don't try to pc different mediums with cooking times that drastically vary.

I run my tools with my agar cook without issue.

Agar cook list is 14x 1/2 pint no-pour, 1x pint and half full of tools (qtips/knives/foil).

as others said, similar times are a-ok.

Ty, whippy, I still wonder how Camtaro420's agar turned out that he cooked for 90 minutes!

Came out just as it did when I tried at 30 mins. But instead of splitting my cakes and my agar up into two more expensive sessions, I consolidated them into 1!

Really, that is good to know stamets says inGG&MM that you will caramelize it possibly causing genetic mutations, then again he also says that you should switch up agar, and I asked a question on here saying stamets says it could (I guess these are the key words "could" make the mushroom agar specific, but I got replies on here that that would take 100's of years for that to take place idk, so thanks for following up on that Camtaro! This is what I use for making agar, now they say to use a cotton stopper, but I was not sure if they just meant reg. cotton balls cause When I read about it it said  a certain kind of cotton I wonder if reg. cotton balls is what they mean, But I got some polyfill last night I wonder if that would be better? All I know on that one is I take alum. Foil and take a twist tie and hold it on there, not real right just enough to keep it from popping off. I have had no problems w/this but if I am gonna start PC more than 1 thing I prob. Need to use something, and by the way I have only done it 4 times since getting that bottle,(far from a pro yet) but the cont. rate went to zero after getting this FREE wine bottle, the bottle I use is 1500 ml and I fill it to the line on it,  i measured 1000ml out and marked it, 1000ml, I have to lean to fit in PC,I put the pic of the PC and a 750 ml. Bottle just for shits, sorry for the LONG ass post, I guess I am just used to my thing being long, LOL
