I take it as prescribed, or even in lower doses than prescribed. 5mg is as high as I go.

I was on all kinds of different amp's from about 1995 till 2007. Started with standard Ritalin when I was in 1st grade, then to dexedrine for about a year, and back to Ritalin for another 3 or so years. Adderall XR until about 2006. The last thing I was on was Effexor(although an SNRI) after I started having anxiety attacks before I graduated High School. Through most of high school I would sell about a 3rd of the doses I supposedly "took" to the future junkies and methheads.
I can say I hate everything about these types of medication. Hate the loss of apetite(I'm already a really slim guy), hate the jitters and shakes, and I just in general hate the head-space it puts me in. I really think all the years of being on these meds have fucked my brains in peculiar ways. And all the money my parents spent on this shit didn't really amount to much as I don't really have much to show for it as far as achievements.

I'm prescribed adderall and i used to binge on it, but nowadays i mostly stick to my prescribed dose but it's by no means uncommon for me to take a higher more recreational dose. but i didn't like running out of my prescription like a week after i got it.

st1llnox said: The #1 best thing to walk out with a script is to get your parents to come and vouch that teachers had always hinted you have ADHD (I discovered this one on accident).
I got my script because I admitted to "abusing it" (using it illegally) and ex-doctor asked how it made me feel/what I did on it )calm, focussed; study, get shit done) and he determined with help from my parents that I'd probaly always had ADHD.
Besides that, memorize the ADHD/ADD criteria in the DSM-IV/DSM-V and remember to answer their questions based on these.
I think I might honestly write a book called "Counter-Psychiatry" (as opposed to Anti-Psychiatry or Psychiatry) detailing this sorta shit.
Good luck
I'm not hyperactive or impulsive what so ever though, actually the complete opposite of that...Teachers and other parents, and my parents, always commented at how calm, quiet, and well behaved I am. But I have much trouble with focus and getting things done, and lots of trouble with getting my thoughts out in a linear fashion (because I don't think very linearally, and thoughts go off in tangents easily, as some of you may notice with my posts around here )
My teachers would often comment how "spacey" and detached I was. I didn't pay much attention in school unless it was something that really pulled my interest, I'd be staring at the ceiling, counting things over and over, getting lost in patterns & textures of things in class, or looking out the window the entire day...But my teachers never cared or talked to me about it because in the end I always did well on tests and reports & stuff, I was usually one of the top students in school, and I was quiet and never spoke or acted out in class .
But homework, reading, getting shit done in general, talking/interacting with others, committing my attention to something that needs to be done...that's quite a challenge for me. Way too many distractions in the world around me, and thoughts in my head, to commit un-divided attention to one single thing (unless, of course, that one single thing is something I'm super into then I can slip into hyper focus like no other).
But yea...I probably should go see about getting an official diagnosis of sorts, as much as I despise labels of such things. I've been told a few times in my life that people suspected me of being kinda aspergy/HFA, but I was always oblivious to my self so what they were pointing out went over my head...now that I'm older and reflecting back, it's becoming clear that I do likely have something like that going on. MDMA and LSD has helped tremendously though, I can't imagine what sorta space I'd be in if I haven't had the experiences I've had.

This has been a very informative thread. I'm currently on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin for "mild Bipolar Disorder" (whatever that means. I'd think you either have it or you don't.) but I'm looking to change medications because my mood swings and attention span have started to revert back to pre-medication levels. I've been on this combination for the past 2-3 years so I'm thinking my body is has become acclimated.
One of my coworkers' son was on Rispirdal and Adderral so I'm going to talk to my doctor about trying that combination. I'm really not looking forward to the Cymbalta withdrawals however. *shudder*

If I were you, I'd be scared shitless of antipsychotics IMO.
Recovery rates (as measured by number of times hospitalized after the first hospitalization for psychosis) plummeted from around 60% to around 6% after they introduced antipsychotics just FYI.
If you could get that combo, try it though I'd just neglect to take the risperidone but for the co-pay price, I'd be getting it for the price of roughly 2-3 street Addies, so...

I love dexamphetamine and methamphetamine but I'm a bit scared by the way they change me in ways I don't notice until after the fact.
I can get worked up/aggressive/defensive over bloody stupid shit and that's not like me at all normally. I usually don't care about anything! (to a certain degree)
Also all of my conversations tend to be intellectual since the empathy factor is kind of weird on amps. I just feel good no matter what so I kind of just talk and talk for the sake of having a task but I never have deep or meaningful sort of conversations.
It makes me feel so clear-headed and perfect that I just can't feel how altered I really am at the time, weird shit if you ask me.

I'll jot that down so I can discuss it with my doctor. I had no idea antipsychotics were that scary. I do know my husband specified "No Lithium" so that was the extent of my "don't try that drug" list.
Thanks for the heads up.

I know 90% of us have ADHD and that the other 10% are just running their doctor for Dexedrine spansules, so... lets hear it
I personally don't find it to have any conventional recreational value but nor do I take it as prescribed. I take it on probably half of the days on any given month, but I find that when I'm taking it faithfully, I'm super productive and almost completely lose interest in recreational drugs. Is it like that for anyone else?
Now if I were scripted 90 Norco a month, I'm sure I'd have the opposite medication noncompliance problem
Have you considered that ADHD might just be extreme stress?
I got maybe 95% of adhd symptoms if I google adhd, and I was once at the psychiatrist who said I likely got adhd randomly
I always delay everything I do, do 10 things at once never finish one, find 10 excuses to delay everything I do, lose my keys/creditcard/socks the past 30 years of my life everyday almost and can only concentrate on reading 5mins at a time max usually
but it wasnt always as bad as now, seems I am very sensitive to noise i.e.
the system doesnt always know best I have never been able to read a full book yet, never made it past 1/4th of it in high school/uni, had to reread 100 times, can only remember if I read it 100 times, seems I only got a long term memory, no short term can read 10 pages and remember 5-10% often
after meditating it all improved :-) after eating healthy it all improved too
it is not gone, and my dad got all the same issues, but it has been reduced a small bit
when I smoked weed I would remember 100% of what I read, but without weed (never smoked weed till 25 or so) I would remember 10-20% max of 5-10 pages
without noise where I live I can concentrate almost like everybody else it seems but the slighest noise makes me completely unable to read even 5 pages and remember more than a few lines of them
then there is the issue of regular sleep too, Ive allways been doing everything last second the whole night if I sleep like everybody else did I might be able to remember my things that is stress too
I don't mean to sound rude, offensive or make a personal attack, but I barely hang out with someone anymore because of crappy behavior like this from a "friend" who frankly I gotta wonder if he really has "ADHD" or if it even exists.
I sorta believe in ADD, but I think a separate ADHD diagnosis, if it exists, is grossly overstated and peoples personality disorders can be the real culprit.
No offense, but why the hell start things and not finish them? WHy start more? DO you have a mental block from ACTUALLY finishing things, like you refuse to> All the behavior you describe sounds like at the very least your preconception is that there is something defective in the way you think, but for my "friend" it never changes.
Why is that? If my "friend",(he is a lousy friend and honestly behaves like a borderline sociopath a lot, he is a fucking weasel) who may not actually have ADD or ADHD still benefits when his doctor put him on them, but god forbid he use his fucking brain and not risk getting in trouble over the trivial amount of money he makes selling them, while he walks around with his head UP HIS ASS.
So I don't assume you hold all these traits, but I will be damned if he learned ANYTHING in the 8 months he jacked around trying to learn to grow shrooms, and wasted my time and money.
I could go on forever, he is just a fuck up. It never ceases to amaze me how he never changes, and frankly he is a little bitch! He is a moron, and I think it's a lot to do with personality disorders that keep him from addressing his obvious problems that at least are similar to "ADHD"
He doesn't really want to be a decent person. He justifies stupid shit, and is a defective thinker. I really think he just has ODD. I want to literally punch him when he is so pathologically defiant, and pathologically inconsiderate.
Is he always this bad. Well no, but he NEVER changes. Frankly he needs just a little bit of antidepressant and a little bit of adderall, and some GOD DAMNED THERAPY.
I have taken it in the shorts so many times for his BS which wouldn't bother me if he didn't have a knee jerk reaction for blaming everyone else.
Or justify his stupid thinking like he goes off and never confronts anything. I guess everyone is against him, or something and his ADHD should be blamed. Except that he is a grown as man and no one else needs to suffer just because he REFUSES to get it together.

Same here. Problem for me is, I honestly don't have any problems focusing when I'm sober. I get my schoolwork and so forth done with no problem. I have a one-track mind. In fact I sometimes feel hyperfocused on that sort of thing to the point of being distracted from social reality. Adderall and similar stimulants- in their prescribed dosages- wake me up to social reality: they makes me talkative, they make me want to go out and be lively and exercise and party and engage in activities. The thing is, they don't prescribe stimulants for problems like mine. They say people like me are "depressed" and give us things like SSRIs and SNRIs, which help a little bit, but they don't do the same thing. I can't really say I'm mad because honestly, I think taking drugs in an attempt to solve problems of this type is an ultimately doomed plan, for reasons mostly due to homeostatic mechanisms.
¨Pretty much this. One year of my life has been the most beautiful and that was in amphetamine addiction, shame tolerance rose to such a height that it was unnerving so I quit.

This is how amphetamines affect me also. Which is why I love them so much. Isnt it pretty easy to get a script? Sometimes I feel like I could use one, other times I think it'd be detrimental.

I used to take Ritalin in High School.
Well, generic methylphenidate, and it was among the anti depressant and mood stabilizers I was taking, this was mostly because an idiot therapist thought I had ADD
I do think it maybe helped though, only downside was the school made a big production of dispensing it to me, but my folks where (rightfully) concerned with me getting in trouble for having it (our school system is drama central)

jesus fucking christ, adderall knocks me on my ass. i could just be a baby, but damn...
my friend in college would sell us his pills sometimes. i tried to take it to bang out research papers in a single night and, the stuff basically made me want to sit still on the floor and just zone out. i couldn't concentrate enough to read articles, take notes, organize them, and then write. no way... i couldn't do anything but just sit there.
it WAS good for playing halo though. if a bunch of us would all take adderall and then fire up halo... whooooooooooooooooooooo
but it didn't help me with coursework.
