Everyone on the shroomery is pro personal freedom pretty much I would imagine, so "left wing". The economic libertarians seem much more vocal. But like the rest of the developed world the majority of us are much more centered.

edit - NM just checked the chart, economic issues are on the x axis.
http://www.politicalcompass.org/analysis2

So I'd say most of us are in the center. Socialists

politics are stupid. the fact that people still go along with two party politics when it's been proven a sham, is beyond me.

I guess we have a multi-party system so its not quite the same but man thats why politics gets/is fucked up. Lots of people bitching about the system and its results and just saying "Ahh politicians sure", while not voting or participating...or even debating past "they're all corrupt

the notion that "it all comes down to one vote" may be partially true... doesn't mean that the one vote has to be "the last vote".

no reason why the polls would sway in any other direction if it was the case that literally everyone had voted. a poll works with averages, and the average doesn't change with one person forgetting to vote.

plus, people don't just say politicians are corrupt and are done with it... they SEE that politicians cannot be trusted and SOMETIMES they have been shown to have been corrupt; throughout history... which they have...

so people are pretty clear in the assertion that politics are tricky business which major mistakes and manipulation can be had.

Praise the lord, somebody to discuss this with!

No a single vote wont do anything but I really believe its the principle.
This whole thing barely holds together on the basis that everyone has a say and without voting I think you effectively lose your voice. If your not participating in the decision about who's running shit, in my eyes you should shut the fuck up. Jaded or not at least try. Though I am a meagre 20 so I'll come back in a decade and see ha ha

That is very true. I see it in my mother and her mother especially that deep-rooted cynicism and I've tried hard to stop it taking hold in me because the resulting apathy is a huge, if not the biggest, factor in how the whole thing gets even more fucked through successive generations.

I intend to run for election and I would love to see the result if a major candidate(would have to be the irish equivalent of the american parties final presidenial candidate) just said "Fuck it, We all know politicians lie and thats what has got us here..So, here is exactly what I think and want to do...You might not like it but hell at least Im actually going to do what I say and not lie about everything. While we're on the topic, I inhaled..every time"

you try that, people will just assume that you're like all the rest; sadly.

trying to be more honest, could be seen as being "less honest", and even if you get in... whatever mistakes you make will still come back and bite you in the ass, no matter how honest or dishonest you were.

and that's what people mostly remember, mistakes... personal, and otherwise. the great stuff we do and use on a day to day basis are done just that... used and are done. no one remembers "Why" or "How" we got these things, unless you read about it in a book or on the web.

sad thing of this world; the things we create seem have infinitely more lasting appeal, and lasting use, then the people themselves who create them. these things we create are also appreciated moreso when the person who created it (how useful or inspired it is or not) has long since died.

people are fickle in the end; that's why politics is always seems to be sleezy game; even when it's not.

I am right wing, but slight right wing. I find a lot of the extreme right wing attitudes as just stupid and need to let go of the traditional past, but I find more of the left wing ideas and attitudes as overly hopeful and never able to actually work in the real world, well my case the US.
