If the jar is left like this, what will happen?

Is it possible for the mycelium to kill off the bacteria and colonize the grain? Just curious!

Bacterial contamination can be a bit unpredictable. It's certainly possible for a bacteria contaminated jar to fruit but usually if you get bacteria like that it will prevent the substrate from fully colonizing. Normally I would say to shake it up and see if that causes the jar to stall completely but I have a feeling you couldn't shake those jars up if you tried.

QFT:

I have tried in the past to fruit bacterial spawn, and like others before have experienced, it is hit or miss.  Sometimes you get a flush, usually you get a secondary contamination from lack of colonization.  After last spring, I learned quite a bit about grain spawn, and moisture content, and it bettered the hobby for me.  As hard as this advice may be, I highly advise looking at each jar, and if they are all similar (Bacterial) toss them out.  Your time would be well spent assessing where the infection derived from and to make a move to ensure that it cannot happen in the future.  I think that the chance of success is so questionable, If it was me, Id rather feel loss of a few jars of spawn than the loss of a tub.

That jars bacteria does not make me think it came with the inoculate, I would not be surprised at all if the others were fine. OP just make sure you give em a good smell before you spawn.

Usually when the grains are too wet this is what will happened.  Eventually the grains will turn black and smell sour or like something that people throw up.  Be very careful when you try to smell the jar.  I would not recommend sniffing it because your lung might end up with nasty stuffs from the jar.  Who knows what is growing in there.  I would say just toss it out.  And if you really want to smell then gently wave the air with your hand.  Don't sniff it with your nose, directly.  I got sick for 1 month from directly inhaling it.  Learned my lesson the hard way as a newbie.  Just by looking now when in doubt toss it out.

Could also be from too short of a PC cycle.

I would not bother smelling that jar, its obvious that its bacterial. I would give the other jars a smell before spawning just to be on the safe side, but for the most part they looked ok

Wow, i've not been here in a while. Ya, these were contaminated, they smelled like dirt when i wafted them. In the meantime i made 9 more jars and they are colonising great, no signs of contamination nor bacterial. they are 65-70% done as well.

Im also growing a second species, and doing 4 LC's.
