Soaking popcorn in water/h202 to reduce contam chance?
    #1930479 - 09/18/03 10:38 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

My friend was planning on innoculating with liquid mycellium, and he was wondering if adding some H202 to the water the popcorn soaks in is a good idea. He thinks it would decrease the chance of infection pretty well...

It would but only so slightly. And it is 3% h202 we are talking about right? It shouldn't hurt mycelium tissue but will kill spores.

Yes, 3%. How much of it should I add to the water?

Well my clone did an experiment once where he/she substituted 3% h202 for water entirely and still got growth. (EDIT: This was from a chunk of mycelium g2g [grain to grain] transfer.) But it later contammed due to lack of sterile work conditions. You can use half water half h202, you can use 1/4 h202. My clone hasn't noticed a difference between the two ratios really.
