so AFOAF gets some mailed to him about once a month.
names are fake and the 10-12 times they have done it, it has always gone smoothly. but the sender is getting somewhat nervous about how suspicious it is for someone to get a package from a certain state about every month.
mostly, because the sender has fellow senders who are warning him with first hand knowledge about how that shit is tracked and certain red flags get thrown up.
so my question is, are there safer ways to go about it? are PO boxes better? or are there services that will relay a package?
maybe i should tell afoaf to tell the sender to use a different mail carrier? surely they don't share information between UPS and FedEx right?

He should always use USPS, as the private carriers can and do open mail without a warrant.

Seems like it would be best not to risk it at all imo. Same reason Ive never used Silk Road or anything even tho I had the temptation a few times. Hell I'm worried about purchasing seeds from Canada or the UK for herb.

I agree with the USPS, you get a lot more protection sending it through them. Your friend should pick a fake name and stick with it, weird to have the same stoner script with different names each month. But I wouldn't worry about the name as long as he doesn't put something stupid on it, like yogi bear.
I like a PO box because the pigs have to think about if they want to sit there and wait for me. If it comes to my house I would have to grab it right away no matter what. Waiting around staring at a PO box is no one's idea of a fun day. If you're going to mail try to make yourself as unappealing as possible.

Depending on the size it might not matter. If your package is small enough that it can be automatically sorted, ie an A4 envelope-ish size, then it should avoid any human intervention and pass through normally.
If it looks like just another small ebay item going through the system it won't be checked too thoroughly.
I've had plenty of stuff in the past without any issues. It's insane to think of the sheer amount of drugs are being transported by a nations own postal service.
Assuming they had picked up one of your packages and were watching for more, they would still need to sting you to get you personally connected to the crime. So you've a changes to dodge charges at that stage. If your extra paranoid, always take the parcel and dump in the bin for a cooling off period. Give you the chance of deniability, yes you had been recieving potentially illegal packages but you'd assumed they were actually illegal and were just an old tenants. You've been dumping them each time seeing as you can't get in contact with them.

Afoaf does that anyway. Afoaf figures the Christmas bulk time it shouldn't be a problem but later attempts it might be time to change venues or carriers. I read that hand written labels from non existent return addresses were the biggest red flag. Seems that if one were to change those aspects it would be easy to deny it on both ends.

Red flags for USPS include: hand-written labels, fake return address, return address in different zip code than where the package was dropped off for mailing, return address not matching name of sender, package wrapped in brown paper.
When sending illicit substances one should make certain that all labels are printed and will be readable by automated equipment. This will reduce the likelihood of a USPS employee handling the package and noticing a red flag.
