too dry?

[someone i know] just innoculated pf cakes yesterday (first time) using the Comprehensive MM tek.

The vermiculite used is more coarse than what is reccomended in the tek and it suggests using slightly more water in this case (which wasnt read until streilized and innoculated).

Exact recipe used: 8c verm, 3c brf, 3c water.

The mixture seemed quite dry but i was afraid to overwater. Is this mixture too dry, and if so, can i add more water using a syringe and distilled water in a sterile enviornment?

My friend has had this problem, they were his very first PF cakes, he thought that they'd be to dry, they fucking took off. After he took them out of the PC he said they looked way to dry to support mycelial growth but he was wrong. He was told on the shroomery to inject with sterile water but didn't wanna risk it, and he didn't, and he's glad he didn't. Don't bother, just give them a while to start colonizing, and make sure you dont have any holes for air exchange, no point in making them more dry when you don't even need that much air exchange.

I've found it better to err toward dryness than too wet.

Every time I added a little extra water cuz the mix looked too dry, the jars took forever to colonize.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Watch and wait!
