can anyone tell me if my cultivation is going okay?
    #19301311 - 12/20/13 04:27 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

These jars have been cultivating for about a week and a half in a home made brf mixture and I was just wondering if they look okay or if I'm doing something wrong. thanks!

wrong kind of jars, but just wait it out and see what happens.
next time get the shorter fat ones and not the tall skinny ones.
they should have the same width as height.

Also those jars have what they call a "jeweled" surface, you should get smooth ones if possible to help you see contams.  Those jars look fabulous, simply fabulous! :ohyeahdefinitely:

The tall ones are less preferred. I have only ever used the tall 1/2 pints for cakes before (and 1/4 pint plastic things) the tall ones have never failed me ever in over 100 cakes easily. I'm sure the short wide mouth 1/2 pints work better but the OP really has nothing to worry about. Also the quilt patter is only on the outside of the jar the inside is smooth and the cake will pop right out. I have 24 of those jars laying around that I use to hold shit now and days but you'll be fine and they look like they're doing well.

Thankyou I thought I might of gone wrong somewhere because the site said cultivation of that strand should only be 8 days but they must of used a diff higher skilled method. this is my first time and I have 10 jars so wish me luck! Ill keep updating and hopefully all 5 strains turn out good! Thankyou for the advice everyone!

Looks good.  It'll take longer because the jars are tall.

Yeah I think I packed them a little tighter than I should of too but that might be a good thing other than time consumption. is there a way to safely speed up the process?

The only thing that can be cultivated in 8 days are contams.  Anyone who tells you different had an exceptional grow (once or twice) or is a liar.  Period.....

Less chance of contam obviously since I got wrong jars and packed tight...I figured that was going to be obvious but if its not a prob then I won't worry about it. just don't want to wait this long for them to get ruined in the end.

Good enough reason as any.

I wouldn't stress it just yet though.

my prediction is the MYC won't make it to the bottom. back in the day i used those jars with success but I had to use a lot of solution to get spores to the bottom. I used 1 syringe for 3 cakes lol. if a pin starts take your chances and birth it and flop the top uncolonized part into the sink and put it into fruiting immediately after you carefully rinse it.  good luck.

Definitely don't pack the jars tight next time. You want to leave it loose.

Usually if I run out of widemouths and have to use those jars I put an inch or so of moist verm on the bottom. Makes for a smaller cake, but speeds up the colonization time, basically taking an inch off of the size of the jar. :mushroom2:
