What is this Cake Discoloration?

I think the dark color is spores from a neighbor cake. But what of that greenish color? Is that the same fungus that took over some of my jars?

I can't really tell if thats mold or not. It looks like bruising from a really dry cake to me. The purple on top are spores, don't let spores drop like that on your substrate.

Pick those shrooms and dunk overnight. You might be able to save it but it looks really dry and unhealthy.

Yup I wouldnt expect to get any more yield out of that cake but maybe it will surprise you..
it looks dead due to low humidity / too little airflow perhaps
but else it is just dropped spores, and blueing of cake , which is normal wouldnt even harvest those tiny amounts , not enough for a trip anyway
+ the shrooms look nasty, wouldnt eat them they dont look healthy
but dont look contamed either I think, might be dead cake
your problem is likely not enough gas exchange in jars? low humidity in FC no airflow in FC (remember to place FC on some feet so air can get into it from beneath, very important)
I read somewhere to NOT roll after dunk on 2nd and 3rd flush maybe worth looking into, I dont do PFtek anymore so cant check it but it will be much easier to spot contams that way, they usually happen in 2nd or 3rd flush.. verm layer can make it hard to spot contams... (research it before trying it, it might lower yield)

Thanks guys. The cakes are now bathing in water for a day. What's wrong with spores on the substrate (perlite)?

I ate 2g aborts without feeling a thing
but sometimes they are very potent
you should use fine verm to roll your cake in, and also for your cake preferably I think pftek says this, not coarse
and if you cannot find fine verm I would recommend you try out WBS tek, much easier to find in any supermarket (but you need a PC for it..)

Perlite is not the substrate. You're susbtsrate is the BRF with vermiculite. I often find that mushrooms don't grow in areas where there is a heavy spore deposit.

I think we're confused. The substrate in the terrarium is pure perlite. Some spores landed there.
