Soft cake after dunk
    #19300067 - 12/19/13 09:07 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

So, i know i am not the first person that posted this problem on here, but it seems that barely anyone knows enough about this..? or just the more experienced people haven't gotten to those forums because there is barely any helpful info on the forums i have read. so i have a few questions:

1) after the first flush, i dunked two cakes in the same container for the same amount of time. one came out fine, the other is very squishy. is this common? did i dunk them too long, or do they just get soft after a lot of nutrients are depleted?

2) should i do something about it? some people mentioned they removed the soft part and put the normal part back into the FC. can i leave it whole, or should i remove the soft parts?

3) some mentioned it gets easily contaminated once it is squishy. is this something i should worry about? should i birth this cake seperate from the others, or maybe just toss it?

4) one person mentioned to let the cake dry before misting again. back to the original question, is the softness normal, or should i let it dry a lot before misting at all?

Thanks for any and all help.

1. Nutrients are depleted.
2. Contamination may be close. I'd say try to get one more flush out of it but keep an eye on it. EDIT: Also, don't bother cutting off the soft area.
3. No, don't worry about it. If it contams then throw it away and forget it ever happened.
4. The softness is normal. I would definitely let it get on the dryer side before spraying it.  Maybe wait a whole 24 hours. That's just my personal opinion though. Seemed to work fine for me.

i'm pretty sure it's not contaminated because it's squishy.. but it might become contaminated because it is weaker than a fresh cake.
