Steve Miller Band and 70's music
    #19299357 - 12/19/13 06:34 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

These guys are fucking awesome and their music is timeless. So many good songs it's impossible to post them all. This was like the end of real music. Here' s the Steve Miller Band greatest hits CD.

What's your favorite band from this time period? If you could go back in time to 1970's, which music show would you attend, and what drugs would you do

the Dead, Zappa

Here's Little Feat live in '75, one of my favorite bands:

The lead singer/guitarist Lowell George played with Zappa for a bit.

Yeah I would go to one of the legendary Dead shows, and drop some of that bomb 70's lucy if I had the chance. I wonder if in the future people will be able to take vacations back in time

Set, thanks for posting. I've never heard of them before, I'm kind of your stereotypical 80's baby

Keep em coming guys, I'm adding more bands to my playlist and music collection. Need some ideas

Jefferson Airplane

CCR

Janis Joplin

Hendrix

The Doors

The Band

It'd take me forever to list them all.

Woah, if your gonna get into some 70's reggae you should definately check out the Wailing Souls. and Bob Marley deserves even more praise than he gets already. He had a boat load of lesser known songs like "one drop", "she's gone", and "Stiff Necked Fools." Check all that out for sure...

And I always thought hendix style blues is the best acid music personally. Mostly his live recordings which out-do the studio stuff ten-fold.

Just my 2 cents.

OK this is Steel Pulse from Reggae Sunsplash '82.  I thought it from the '70's but I fucked up.

Don't ban me.

One of my favorite reggae bands of all time, and this clip is awesome:

The Doors, Funkadelic, Isaac Hayes, Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, Donna Summers, Fleetwood Mac, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, William Bell, The Meters, Slave, Bob Marley

Too much to list.  70s funk is one of my favorite genres.

Grateful Dead
Hendrix
Pink Floyd
The Doors

I'd eat tons of acid, maybe do a little speed on the side.

The list would go on...I wrote them down somewhere, I play guitar so I listen to the sixties and seventies folk and rock bands all the time for inspiration.

Also, there are some really good music bands out there in the far corners of the world in hiding...I personally love the European pagan folk revival type music that I found out about recently, it reminds me of the sixties music with a huge twist. Mainly the bands focus on ancient polytheism, traditional and medieval instruments and they typically sing in a bunch or languages, the lyrics are also about politics occasionally especially in the case of my favorite band...the only thing I dislike about the movement is the abundant numbers of subpar metal bands that associate with the folk bands and make it hard to find the great folk and rock bands...

Just in case I sparked your interests, well the bands names are...

Omnia, my favorite band. The most rock and roll/folk of all of them and yet they only use acoustic instruments. A lot of people don't like their new style but aye, I love both styles that they've represented. Check them out! Highly unique, talented, intelligent, band that makes music for nature! They also eat shit tons of mushrooms...and the leads girl is an angel.
Faun, possibly my second favorite. A lot like OMNIA but more subtle and relaxing. Very unique and powerful band with intelligent members who fill their music with the utmost soul.
Damh The Bard, he reminds me of bob Dylan if Dylan was pagan, haha. Just listen to green and grey or his Robin Hood song. All three of the bands just mentioned are full of character and just losing energy, it's so awesome..
Rapalje, if you ever travelled back in time and went to an Irish pub I'm sure these guys would be playing and buying you drinks, they're so laid back and they make pure European music in the old way. Awesome group of HIGHLY talented folks.
Blackmores Night, basically one of the founders of deep purple met up with a hottie and created this traditional band that celebrates nature.
The Moon&The NightSpirit, a duet that makes song about shaman lifestyle.
Neun Welten, don't know much about them but I like the songs I've heard.
Trobar De Morte, bad ass bitch makes her own band.
Wardruna, this is another favorite. These guys basically make music from old Nordic runes that were found thousands of years ago. My favorite song that I've heard was called helvegn, the highway to hell. They do a lot of bad ass chanting in a dead language. Sounds awesome.
Daemonia Nymphe, they do Greek musicals and shit, I think is rad.
Schandmaul, folk rock, they're more modern than most of the bands listed here but they're awesome and they have hot chicks that play fiddles and bag pipes. Suck that.

Sorry if I derailed the thread but your comment needed to be corrected. There is still good music out there but yes, it's rare. In fact 50s-80s rock is the only music I enjoyed for a LONG time so I felt your pain until I heard about those gems mentioned above.
