how do my pups look?

So. About 10 months ago got my hands on some bridge stalks. Got 2 8in cuttings and left them in dark cabinet for about 6 weeks. I saw roots extending so I put them in cacti soil then 2 weeks later did a very light watering.
Over the summer some pups popped out and grew pretty quick. Then the fall came so I put them in a window sil that gets zero sun and stays pretty cool. About 55 degrees.
I havent watered them since fall. However a month ago they were lookin pale and the flesh was kinda soft. So I watered them. Now a month later they are getting color back and the flesh is firm. However the pups are having roots pop out. Is that normal?

Any input or comments are much appreciated and welcomed! Thanks guys!

Not that uncommon for bridgesiis. You are probably gonna need some bigger pots for those pretty quick though. If you are keen to propagate, you could remove the pups and pot them up after they callous over. Since they already have roots they should take off pretty quickly.

Oh yah? Just cut them below the root? Like include some of the parent stalk?
Then let them scab over in dark cabinet like original stalk?
And what about the cut site on original piece? Cover it? Leave it open to air?

Yeah, I would transplant them to a larger container.
I don't have any experience with Bridgesii, but I have a fair amount with Pachanoi, which is similar, and if I were you I would plant the pups (after they callous of course). You will be surprised at how fast they will take hold.

I have had success with just removing the entire pup and letting it callous. And yes you will want to put them in a dark cabinet for about a week, pups callous faster than the larger cuttings. You can just leave the parent stalk be (I would transplant though) and with any luck it will grow more pups.

Should I pull or cut or twist the pups off or does it not matter?

Whenever I have removed pups I pulled them out of the parent stalk fairly easily. I find they root better when you keep the entire pup intact. Try giving it a gentle pull and it should come right out. I can take a picture of a pup I have just planted tomorrow if you want a picture for comparison before proceeding.

You should be able to pull it right out, but do so gently. It should look similar to this, however this is dried out and it is basically just a small root(probably not the correct botanical term) attaching the pup to the parent stalk.

It's very normal trichocereus (and most echinopsis also) cause aerial roots growing from the base of branch or somewhere from stock. Usually to shady side, like your's spent time at windowsill.
Sometimes it can indicate bad soil/root bound/root rot but if your plant is firm and ok, it's just normal. Nothing bad about.
When you have pot full of roots, you probably want to repot these to bigger pots and give some dose of fertilizers. Idk when season starts in your climate but anyway, fertilize when season starts after you have repot them to new soil. Or grow them in these pots one season and then repot when they really have nice root system.
I have seen bigger trichos is smaller pots anyway so your pots should do some time.. But trichos grow so fast you find them root bound easy if they are too long time in limited size of pot. Anyway, this can take year or two before pot is totally full of roots.
About root grows out from the side of cactus, you can cut it off if you want.. I grow lots of windowsill and I see this kind of roots always, mostly it is because bad soil or simply root bound or sometimes it's nothing and roots come to shady side of cactus.

You should really use a sharp sterilised knife. Twisting and pulling pups runs the chance of de-coring them. If enough of the core is taken then the plant has no vascular system to continue growing.
You also don't put freshly cut cactus in dark, stuffy closets. Somewhere out of the sun will suffice. They need some airflow to callus and this prevents rot and mould growing.

Not sure if you have done anything with these yet Rewindicus, but I would cut them with a sharp sterilized knife as suggested, right at the joint where the pup emerges from the mother. Allow the cut on the pup to dry somewhere out of direct sun, but that has good ventilation. The dark is not necessary since you already have roots. After the cut callouses (at least a week) you can plant it up. You don't need to do anything special with the cut on the mother, just be sure not to get the cut wet.
