Question about polyfill jars

So i just PC'd three jars of agar I just made. They have polyfill filters and I forgot the foil. They dont seem too wet or anything. But I remember reading something about foil for the pirpose of contams not water blockage.
Should I cover em in foil and PC again after they cool? Or should these be okay for me to inoculate?

Depends on how your inoculating, if your inoculating via syringe through the polyfill then there's a chance contams will land on the top of the polyfill when your taking it out.
However, if your planning to inoculate by opening the lid then you don't need to PC again. But add some foil to the top, it'll furhter reduce the chances of contams ever getting through the polyfill

So add foil to the top after inoculation? Wouldnt that mess up GE?

Nah, to cover the top of the poly fill, you can't make it air tight anyways
Your polyfill is stuffed into a hole in the lid right? So i just put my foil to protect dust etc directly landing on the polyfill, or you can put a piece of tape

Ah i see what your saying.
Its weird. I just inoculate the jars and leave em without a cover on a window sill and they dont contam.
Idk if contams start Ill cover but I strongly believe in what isnt broken shouldnt be fixed. 10 species and still not 1 contam
On another note I saw the polyfill being covered with things like Micropore tape and Tyvek and it makes a weird bubble people use to inject through. Id think a port would be easier made of silicone. Unless you have a long ass needle.

wait, u pc'd 3 jars of agar to use to start a culture? r those the jars u leave open? or u mean u leave the lid on with polyfill sticking out of hole (exposed to air) without foil on top?

Yeah no foil over the polyfill. Im in the east up north. Its pretty cold so Id imagine that helps alot. But so far my species are all doing very well. My enoki is still iffy though. It got shook up.
Im using pastywhytes potato dextrose agar tek. And I use a still air box and isolated my inoculation area really well. I also go very very slow

oh ok. i have pasty tek containers out in open as well (not near window though) but with micropore instead of poly and no con tams. is window open?
my jars and pasty agar pp5's have a draft blowing on them from cheap heater (the coil kind where a fan blows the heated coil air forward) and have not had problems, but its a very light draft from far away, just to keep heat up that area in my apt to 78, other wise rest of my apt at 69, which is ok, but i'd like it a little higher.
TIT's are non draft and can do well, and regular room temp/conditions can do well. guess its all about ur filter and innoculant/spawn.
have u checked CVS in medical aisle for micropore? its labeled as "gentle paper tape" in same aisle as band aids and the elastic wraps and such for wounds/sprains. package that contains it looks just like ur about to buy scotch tape. the brand i use is "Nexcare" just FYI

Sweet Ill look soetime. No I keep the window shut. I just like having it near the cold and natural light when its starting off. Then At night when its too cold I put them all on the shelf with lava lamps for light and warmth. I also keep all my specimens near my aloe plants.
Im very much the kinda person that just does what feels right and things seem to go great. And if it doesnt I learn fast. But so far so good
