My only concern is that when looking for new growth this morning, I noticed that some parts of the cake were starting to turn green. Do I leave the mushrooms currently growing to achieve their full size or do I start picking like a mad-man ASAP?
Pics. Its unusual for a healthy cake capable of producing a large flush to contam.

unless it was the contam that made it pin in the first place, they go into mad man mode to do there best to eject spores in the face of a contam

Pics below. I don't know if you can see the green stuff I'm talking about, but it is there. As for growth, this cake had nothing on it on Monday. It's now Thursday. The growth you see is two and a half days.

Yeah that is only bruising. Trich is pretty easy to tell apart from bruising if you have experienced it before... at least in my case it is.

Here, I tried to zoom in and crop. It doesn't look green on the camera for some reason - maybe because I'm stuck using my phone - but when you look at it with the naked eye, for lack of a better phrase, it really does look green. What do you guys think I should do?

That is a beautiful pinset coming on. Even from the updated pic the OP posted I still suggest it is bruising. Looks more blue than green. Compare it to this link of all kinds of molds to get a good sense of how Trich really looks like. Alot of newbies always think that the bruising is trich and start to freak the fuck out for no reason...

That is 100% bruising, probably from dry mycelium/substrate. Dunk after this flush and youll be fine

that is "bruising", look at all those pins and imagine the moisture they have sucked out of your cake, sit it in a saucer of water over night your gonna need all the moisture you can get for those and good job bud

Yup listen to what we got to say and stop worrying. Look at the link that I posted and COMPARE it to what you think you got. You will notice the difference pretty damn fast.

Whew. That's a load of my mind. This is my first cake, so of course I haven't got much experience yet and everything is new and possibly disastrous :P. But thanks for the reassurance and compliments guys. Always good to know you've done something right.
Question: as for sitting the cake in water as cronicr and a few others have suggested, do I wait until after this flush has finished, or should I do it now?

if it gets worse i would flip it and put it in water.. i wouldnt have the mushy's laying in water but its not that much bruising and its only on that section so the rest of the cake still has moisture. odds are you make it to harvest before you see alot more bruising. congratz on the pins tho. give yourself a pat on the back.(that will hold you off until harvest day lol)

If your pins remain pins for more than 48 hours or moree, dunk again and they'll take off.
